1.8 Loss Of Power

Featured Replies

Hey guys first post, unsure if topic is else where.

Have an 06 1.8tdci for approx 3yrs runs fine and has been serviced at correct intervals. I pulled away from a junction last night for a loud band to take place and loss of power and engine malfunction light to come up on the display. On acceleration there is black smoke, not at idle. The engine also appears to be running louder and cut out a couple of times, limiter has also kicked in so in limp mode

on inspection of the engine bay this morning, I found a hose to the left of the engine, which appears to have a cover missing (see attached picture) on holding hand over the hole there is some oil, but also blowing air out, could this be the only problem to the issue or could I be looking at something more serious? Many thanks.... Tim

I suspect that is the cause, black smoke is indicative of an air / fuel imbalance & if that hose carries airflow, then there's a lack of air being fed into the combustion chambers - hence the black smoke & limp mode & EML illumination

Replace or properly repair the hose & see if the issue is cured
