Nostalgic Purchase - Mk 4 escort.

Featured Replies

Hi and thank you for taking the time to have a look at my post.

First of all let me introduce myself and tell you a little bit about me.  I am Craig and also known as CJ, also been known to answer to a plethora of other different names but we’ll just stick to Craig or CJ at the moment.  I am in my early 30s and live in Glasgow however I am rarely in Glasgow as I am a HGV driver and my work takes up way too much of my time and as the company I work for is based in Dumfriesshire I seem to spend a lot of my time down there as its where I was brought up.

My first car was a Mk 4 1989 Ford Escort 1.4 Ghia with a few tweeks done to it, RS turbo wheels, fully painted bumpers, door handles & locks. Also had a square front number plate, spot lights, Ford racing sunstrip, recaro seats…………and the list goes on.  All was well with my first car until being young and stupid I tried and turn into a Junction a wee bit to quickly and the car slid on Diesel to the opposite side of the road hitting the kerb with the front off side wheel, with a twisted chassis leg and the suspension and wheel taking the full force of the impact the car was written off. Which I was gutted at. A series of different cars followed some fords and some not, another mrk 4 escort and an all white mk3 escort cabriolet were in that list but I always wanted another Mk 4 escort like my first car.

I recently saw an advert for my most recent purchase (bought last night and still to collect) and thought that’s it that the one. A mk4 in Diamond white with only 36k on the clock, a few modifications have been made to it but nothing too much that couldn’t be undone. Although my first car was modified I have always wanted to get another with the intention of keeping it as standard as possible but being able to use it at on the odd occasion to take to one or two select shows.  I am looking to be collecting my Escort next weekend and cannot wait to get back behind the wheel of an Escort.

Anyway if your still reading this I applaud you! Here are a couple of pictures of my first car and the car I have just purchased and I look forward to keeping you updated with the progress of the car and also hope to meet a few of the members at some of the select shows that I will be attending.

next weekend cant come quickly enough!

Had one myself or one like it. Went so well, used to pop down from Mid Wales to Strood daughter lived there. Long way for me nothing for a lorry driver of coarse.

Looks very nice, try not to put lights all over it you know what you lorry drivers are like.

Welcome.

No, no lights will be going onto it! its getting put to standard well standard ish!  Wheels are coming off and will be changed for a set of clean RS turbo wheels and the and steering wheel is getting changed back ( I'm strange apparently) as I don't like the RS one. Might take the twin webbers off as well and put a XR3 carb on instead. Its still got its original number plates from the main dealer on it and the sticker from the dealer in the back window so I want to keep it as close to standard as possible.

I'd think about protecting the rear sticker with some oversized clear vinyl. that'll Stop it peeling or cracking over time from the sunlight :)

Great thank you for the tip I'll certainly be looking into that one! one of my mates knows that there is a company out there somewhere that can replicate the number plates if required. Hes got it written down "somewhere" so one he finds it he will let me know and in turn i am sure I will put a post up about it!

Cheers for the comment. I'm like a Kid counting down to Christmas! Saturday cant come fast enough!
