Coloured tints

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

Just had my rear windows tinted 20% black. Love them.

Fitted tinted deflectors. Looks smart.

Now. Just out of curiosity, what's the deal with Windows that have a coloured tint to them?

I'll try find some pictures with examples, I'm interesting in this especially if it was legal.

Maybe a nice clear to blue tint? This tint if everything was cleared OK. Would go on my front two and windscreen?

I am aware it is illegal to have tints to the fronts or anything below 70%.

But what's the situation with this type of tint?

Just my curiosity is peaking and can't find anything on the net to clear it up.

Thanks in advance. Cookey.

Like this sort of thing?

I know it seems daft. I'm just so curious as to what the uk law is on this sort of tint?

Especially if it was applied to the fronts. Because I've seen a few cars, that look to have a touch of blue colour to the Windows.

I know fords come with pre-tinted glass. And this may be that. But what's the laws regarding coloured?

Looks daft.. but as long as the light transparency is legal I don't see why there would be an issue?

Thinking about it since I posted it. It would look daft. Haha. But just wondered what the situation was most of all.

Cheers matey.

The windows are factory tinted close to legally possible so any extra would be illegal, front side tints are almost always illegal unless you've got a poverty spec old car with clear glass glass lol.

Not sure if you're old enough to remember the original PSOne games but you could tint windows all sorts of colours in Need For Speed back in the day haha. :D

Ford's also have a greenish hue to the tint.. so that's coloured I suppose ;)

I knew they were tinted from factory mate. Yeah. Cheers for clearing it up though. And hahaha yeah I can remember. Me and my brother were all over the ps1, we even got a little screen to fit onto the console so it could become portable!
