2010 Focus Titanium - Disable alarm before removing battery

Featured Replies

Hi, My battery needs a charge but when I disconnect one of the battery ternminals, the alarm (siren) goes off. This car has the factory fitted Cat 1 alarm with backup battery in the siren. Is there any way to stop this? I tried locking/unlocking the car with the key, but this doesn't help.

Also, there doesn't seem to be enough space to get the battery out. Do you need to remove the bulkhead cover (and the windscreen wipers to get this off) to remove the battery?

Thanks

Phil

Front and one side of the battery box comes off to let you draw the battery out.

Have you tried putting the key in the ignition while disconnecting the battery?

Thanks for the help.

Putting the key in the ignition did the trick. The car has keyless entry stop/start so I had to remove the key cover to do this.

I could not find a way to remove the front of the battery box case as it seems there is a harness attached to it. This looks like it is screwed to the case and is too low down to remove without removing the air filter box. I did manage to unclip it and pull it away from the battery by just enough to get the battery out (the battery was almost on its end).

Thanks again everyone.

My Ford Ficus Titanium Estate 2008 alarm goes off in the cold. Always during the night & neighbours complain!!! I have to leave boot open to stop it.

How do I know where the alarm is to disarm or remove it?

My mechanic said a battery that was put in this before I bought it used (a year or so ago) is the cause but I have to find where it's located!

Any ideas?

Thankyou

You can't remove or disarm the alarm system for a two reasons.

  • It will invalidate your car insurance.
  • If the alarm is tampered with, it will prevent the car from starting

You need to use the software FORScan and a vLinker FS cable and connect to the cars OBDII port. The reason for the alarm being triggered will be held in the log of DTC's.

One common fault is the microswitch on the bonnet catch is starting to fail. As it gets cold through the night it can cause this switch to sometimes trigger the alarm.

If your car has interior sensing for the alarm you can also try disabling this with the switch on the drivers door. Used for example if you left a dog in the car and the pooch moving about triggered the interior sensors.

Has to be done every time you lock the car but would at least help you rule it out as a possible cause
