Hi I have got a 57 plate S-Max TDCI. When I'm turning its making a whining noise, but it's only occurring when the engine is warm. It's still noticeable when going straight but worse when turning any ideas what it could be?

I have an 07 plate S Max Titanium 2.5t with a similar problem. Did some digging with my main dealer and we discovered differences in models. Some have electric power steering pumps and some have pumps driven by belt off the drive. My steering was stiff, another common fault after 50,000 miles or so, and the whining pump. The pump and system was flushed and refilled which helped but not fully. Then had a new pump which reduced again but finally the rack was replaced. All I am left with is a  slight whine which is noticeable only when turning but as it is     driven by the drive, I expect it to have a tone that changes depending on use and revs. Hope it helps 

It's not really affecting the proformance of the car at all. Just the whining noise, my mechanic did suggest to change the power steering fluid. And if that doesn't work he will change the pump hopefully this works.

its the rack normally, the seals start to deterioate and travel through system , damaging pump. there is a filter in the reservoir that traps the bigger particles.you may be lucky and just a pump issue but i doubt it.

a new reservior has an extra filter so when you have replaced rack and pump , any debris running round system is caught. then the extra filter is removed.

so now you have a clean system, so many garages dont follow procedure and dont replace reservior and then blame a faulty pump or rack for the noise coming back.
