elgirufo
Hi, The wife was driving my Fiesta when the clutch went, on checking found that the clutch actuator arm had parted from the clutch pedal. I hooked the arm back on but on pressing the clutch in a few times it popped back off again.Looked around for any clips, washers etc... and checked with the wife that she had not picked anything up out of the footwell, but found nothing. I picked up a spring washer from ford but even this is worked loose and falls off, then noticed a little fluid coming out of the master cylinder. Does the actuator arm normally on this model just slide on to the metal bar (attached to the clutch peddle) without any fixings..? Being as this is the first time the actuator arm has worked free in the 5 years i have had the car , is it safe to assume that the problem is going to lie with the master cylinder? If so any ideas roughly how much i much its lkely to cost to replace? Thanks in advance El girufo
gaz6076
There's a clip ford designed specificaly for this problem. Suprised they didn't say when you went in. Unless that was the spring washer they gave you and you put it on the wrong way? It's easy done trust me. Lol If there is a leak I would get it checked out as the master cylinder works both the clutch and the brakes, so you don't want to be taking any risks
flying clutchman
the link normally comes off the pedal when the master cylinder starts to wear. However sometimes they just flick off anyway. Best bet is to drill a 2mm hole near the end of the post on the pedal so that you can put a split-pin through. Your cylinder should'nt show any signs of leaking so it must be changed asap. You don't need to worry about losing your brakes, although the clutch and brakes share the same fluid resevoir this is divided internally, so even if you lost your clutch fluid entirely your brakes would be unaffected. RedFiesta
Just had exactly the same problem, but when the clutch pedal was loose it broke the clutch pedal control switch. Tried to put it back, but I can't see that the pedal could ever have made contact with the switch (even when fully extended) with the link in place. Tried driving the car with the switch in and out and didn't notice any difference, does this switch do anything on the Finesse ? Seen it only costs about £10 so will go and get another one but can it do any damage in the meantime ?
RedFiesta
New switch ordered for £9.97 including VAT, been driving round all day with broken switch tie wrapped out of the way and can't tell the difference. Ford dealer said it was an anti stall device, but I'm not convinced.
RedFiesta
Ok, new switch fitted, turns out the clutch pedal can operate a working switch (guess the old one took more of a hit than I realised)... still not sure if it does anything though ! If anyone knows please post an answer. thanks
