Gas and electric supply rip off

Featured Replies

I've just contacted SSE who supply my gas and electricity and told them that I am switching suppliers because I think they are too expensive.   The girl immediately came back saying that they did have a cheaper tariff. As a result, I've got £67 a month knocked off my bill.   The question is, of course, why wasn't I already on that tariff?

A search on line still revealed a cheaper tariff.

there my supplier I think I will ring them thanks

I've now switched to Sainsbury's Energy.   £30 a month cheaper than SSE's cheapest tariff.

It isn't the suppliers responsibility to check that you are on the cheapest tariff - that is your job as a consumer.

I work in customer service for "another" supplier and can't tell you how irritating it is when customers moan "so why didn't you put me on the best tariff!?".  If you get paper bills, it is displayed on them what tariff you are on and your unit rates (if you aren't happy, CALL US rather than waiting 6 months and then complaining we have "ripped you off"), or if you have an online account then you can do everything yourself.

*RANT OVER*

Really jm? My experience is that my supplier BG has contacted me a bit before my reduced tariff rate is about to end to discus a new tariff.

If you rant and you're in customer service my adice is get out of it as you are most unsuitable for that post.

Customers don't need customer service agents who get frustrated.

Oh yes, if your fixed price tariff is ending then you should be notified of that (by email or letter), but to automatically put you onto another tariff (which may have an exit fee) would be impractical and illegal as it would involve agreeing to a new set of terms and conditions which can only be done with the customer's consent.  That's wonderful that British Gas call customers before their tariffs end, but unfortunately not all suppliers have the resources for that volume of outbound calls.

Please don't give me career advice, my attitude and how I conduct myself at work is absolutely none of your business, nor your concern.

I joined a scheme ran by my local authority. It was a group tender type thing that was very well published local. 19000 locals signed up and the the scheme returned with the suppler OVO energy. Let me tell you just how much this independent supplier save me in the first year.

£430.00 compared with what  British gas where charging me.

I am now signed up to my 3rd year with OVO and still saving plus everything meter wise is all wireless. so no more estimated bills. you pay for what you actually use.

Oh not to mention the 3% on any balance they hold. Better than my bank !!
