New small car models and what you think.

Featured Replies

As i said in the title, small (fiesta size) cars, there seem to be a lot of other 16 reg or newer card popping up that look nice but what you think.

The new polo seems nice and i have seen 3 by us in the last few weeks, also the Peugeot 208 seems to pop up a lot.

What do you think of the new ones to take on the Fiesta,i don't think a lot will ever beat the drive as it seems what all the reviews say, fiesta and the drive/handling of it.

Put my opinion straight.. i wouldn't touch a French car, as nice as they look. I wouldnt touch a pug. As for the polo and polo gt there isnt much difference but the prices volkswagen charge? Id stay from them also.

Ford has the handling, but by far do not have the best upholstery. The mk7.5 looks nice on the front but not exactly attractive on the rear. To me ford are going down hill and rapidly. Which is a shame as I love fords a lot.

Ford has always been about driving experience and value for money.

I think they are doing great at the moment and anything but going down hill.

The current Fiesta is about 8 yrs old now, yet still out handles everything in its class.

It is in need of a replacement, however as my dealer said, they are understandably taking their time to ensure that the replacement is not a step backwards.

Yeah Fiesta is great to drive, but I think most other companies that do small cars have a much nicer interior, great in car entertainment but as far as I've seen the fiesta has a poor excuse of a little screen which some have sat nav but it's so small it's almost funny.

I can picture the new Fiesta being absolutely brilliant though.

The problem with the Fiesta is still the same now as it was 10+ years ago.

They put effort into looks, handling and 'fun' BUT skimp on spec and in most cases power, I'm not even sure why the EB100 was an option, go 125 or go home  and as for the 50 year old 1.25..eurgh...  Drum brakes on an ecoboost is ridiculous.  The interior still feels cheap.  And you don't get much spec unless you go for a Titanium, even then a lot of stuff is still optional which I'd want standard.

It depends what you want I guess, we all want different things from cars.  If I was buying a new car it would probably be another Ford (as I can't afford anything VAG which is my first preference)...but I want the Focus interior squeezed into a Fiesta exterior, with rear discs, 6 speed box and a tonne of spec as standard...

VAGs are overrated and dull imo, french seem all style and no substance - I do like the look of the current Renaults, but down here would mean dealing with Westover and I don't care how good the car is, that isn't happening, lol.

Fiesta is still the best selling car by a long margin, even with the competition. The next gen, due in the next 18 months I reckon should really bring it up to standard, without hopefully spoiling the fun factor or affordability.

If I wasn't buying Ford, then it would be one of the Japanese brands, maybe a BMW if I could afford it - of course I would spec in the optional indicator package. :P

Don't get me wrong, the Fiesta is still a great car, it's just let down by silly things for me.  As is my Focus, why rear discs and cruise & climate control weren't standard I really don't know...and the lack of sound deadening, VAG do at least know how to sound deaden a car!  It's personal preference really, funny thing is I'm on various forums, for Ford, Peugeot, VAG amongst others...but have to be careful what you praise on most forums as a lot of people seem to be stuck in one brand lol.

My Mum has a Swift which is far better value for money than the Fiesta (she looked at both), top spec model comes with loads as standard, and it's much better on fuel in real life with other running costs being similar.  I find it a bit uncomfortable personally and of course it's not quite as pokey as an EB125 with only 95bhp iirc, but she's not overly fussed by power so suits her fine, and was considerably cheaper than an equivalent Fiesta.

I will await the next gen Fiesta then, hopefully they don't ruin it lol.

Fiesta is class. Enough said. Regardless of the outdated interior... you'll find in "tests" that the fez will always come out on top... I personally think the fiesta is the best looking supermini. Front and rear. And I love the interior of my zetec. Dont really need a touchscreen...

Vw polo - too expensive over-rated.(Can get the basics for about £13k)

Swift. Not going to lie. I think they are ugly. Never drove one. Never really attracted me.

208 - french.

Mini - wouldnt consider.

Corsa... no words.

Fiat punto - wouldnt consider... feels like it hasnt had a facelift or redesigned since about 2006...

Clio- i admit. I test drove one... took my fancy. Oyster grey with black 16in alloys. I was close to it being my first car... while it looked the part. The steering had no passion. Just too light. Couldnt really tell you were cornering. The cabin felt too big for what it was. The fez. Spot on. Perfectly weighted steering. Comfortable. When something just feels right... you know.

My boss had a Corsa as a courtesy car while his Mondeo was in for repair, the first day he got it, he said it wasn't as bad as he expected, but a few days later he couldn't wait to get his car back.

He absolutely hated the car, said the Corsa feels like it has pogo sticks on each corner for suspension, haha.

You can hardly compare a Corsa to a Mondeo...   Slightly different price range and target market lol.  I don't like Corsa's, but some do, in fact a lot do, because they're cheaper than a Fiesta (not hard  ) and come with a fair amount of spec as standard.  The interior is even worse than the Fez though lol.  And interior is something I really look at in a car...whilst exterior styling is important, and the Fiesta wins that easily for me, it's the interior where I'll be sitting for thousands of miles...  It's one of the reasons I chose a worse specced and more expensive Focus over an Astra (although they look awful on the outside as well lol).

The 208 isn't a bad car and the puretech engine is decent as well, I don't personally like them as it's all a bit cramped with a tiny wheel and dash clocks - they've done that on purpose to make it appeal more to 'enthusiasts' but I really don't like it.  Interior and spec in them is good for the money as well.

I don't like Mini interiors but they seem a popluar choice, never driven one so cant comment on that!

Punto, I just don't like them, nothing stands out as being better than rivals for me.

Polo, well I think they look fantastic, on par with the Fiesta when both are in sporty spec...not sure they're overrated personally, I really like them and couldn't care less about other peoples opinions or ratings lol, but they are expensive though, that's the main downside for me.

Renault!! Er no. I had clio last week in portugal, 1.0 3 cyl, yuk. Havent got time to write up whats so wrong with those.

The Fiesta is a great car but is in desperate need of replacement. The interior really lets it down for me, one of the reasons I got a Focus instead.

Polo - VAG, ugly and boring!

208 - a decent little car, I love the LED lights and the interior. Driving dynamics aren't amazing though (excluding GTi) and you really need to pay extra for the Pure tech 110 for decent performance. I don't like the clutch in them much either. Had a few as hire cars though, nice step up from the 207!

Clio - similar to 208, nice stylish little car. 0.9 TCe is good but thirsty for its size. I'd choose a 208 over it.

Japanese - not my scene.

Corsa - meh, much nicer interior than the Fiesta but still have the chav factor and non turbo engines are rubbish. The 1.4T we had in Germany as a hire car was fine but the driving position was odd.

Mini - ugly and hideously expensive.

Punto - past it.

I have always said this about the corsa, i had the 09 and take my elderly dad out and it was soft ride and not a lot of road noise if any but

the ride say on bends and even on the flat was bouncy and after a good run make you a bit sick, the inside aint to bad but its just that badge.

Got to say i do like the new facelift polo, not the sport one the top spec job and the inside looks so well done.
