The Wonder Wheels Review

Featured Replies

Review time, I was looking for a product that would clean my alloys and remove the black tar "glued" to my alloy wheels. I'd seen many products available one of these was Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels (This was a an impulse buy at the time but lets give it ago).

The front end of the car had more brake dust and general grim so this is where I focused my review.

This before close up showing black road tar behind the alloy spokes along with the general dirt after a quick rinse off from a hose pipe.

As instructed on the back of the bottle I sprayed the Wonder Wheels onto the alloys attempting to avoid the disk brakes. While doing this it was noted that unless you pull the bottle trigger fast the Wonder Wheels would come out in a straight concentrated squirt instead of a spray.

After managing to cover the wheel with what appeared to be a lot of Wonder Wheels I left them for the recommended 5 minutes. Although it wasn't required I used an alloy cleaning brush to scrub the wheels to hopefully agitate the stubborn tar.

5 minutes later the Wonder Wheels has turned Red as described and it has also begun to dry at the top of the alloys, I wasnt sure if this has reduced its effectiveness. After washing off the Wonder Wheels lets see the amazing results!

Well maybe not... Yes the Wonder Wheels cleaned the wheels on a general cleaning level however it failed to make an impact on the road tar. So for this I would recommend the Wonder Wheels to be used as a general alloy wheel cleaner as long as you're not wanting to shift anything more than braking dust.

N.B Avoid contact with braking discs at all cost!

Score 4/10

Just a word of warning, Wonder Wheels is highly caustic.

You need to be very careful where you use it, as it can eat away at brake related components.

It ate the wheel badges on my Fiesta before I switched to using non corrosive cleaners - I use bilberry now.

Thank you for the Word of Warning!

Unfortunately the Wonder Wheels was unable to shift the tar any recommendations for that?
