help needed

Right had this problem for a few week.

had battery and alternator tested all fine.

the problem is if the car is not locked and am sat inside it for more than five 10 minutes the car loes power and drains the battery and can no longer start it jump leads, but I can sit in the car with it locked and I can have my phone on charge and radio on for a hour or something and it will start no loss of power, no lights come on no warning noises nothing, drives fine and it's a ford fiesta metal 2011a

anyone had a similar problem or any ideas thanks Matt.

That sounds like you've short that's going to ground but only when the car is unlocked.

Perhaps a corroded connection leading to or from, the door control module

Battery or charging system sound dodgy to me.

If something was really draining a 40AH battery, fully charged & in good condition, in 10 minutes, that is a current of 240 Amps. Something would be red hot, smoking & flaming, and the battery would probably boil.

Don't think there can be much juice in the battery. Maybe the interior lamp is enough to do it?

Re-try a battery test, perhaps like this:

*** Battery Test
Start engine. After recovering from starting (normally under 1 minute), voltage should rise to at least 13v at idle, and with the engine at about 1200rpm, charge voltage should stabilise at 14.0 to 14.6v. This range should be maintained with headlights on or off.

Then turn engine off, monitor battery voltage (at the terminals, direct on the lead battery post itself if possible), turn ign & headlights on, see how quickly battery drops. It should drop to about 12v quite quickly, then hold, and not go below about 11.5v even after a few minutes.

If battery fades away quickly, it is duff. Also if charge voltage is too high, either it is duff, or there is a serious problem with the charging system.
