Fiesta doesnt like cold

Featured Replies

Hi all. Got an 06 plate Fiesta 1.25 and when it has been stood for a while (overnight or at work) when we first pull away it looses revs and hestitates, doesnt stall but looses all revs. Only happens the once and never once warmed up, but when starting from cold, instead of pulling away we have tried revving it slightly to see if it still hestitates and it seems to have a 'spot' where it hits and revs are lost but come straight back, pulling away after this is fine. Car has done 49k and hasnt had a service since 23k apart from oil change (full service is been done today). Wondered if anyone has an idea what it is? is it just the lack of service bunging it up lol?

EDIT - another thing we have noticed is that when the car is cold it honks of petrol quite bad, not so much so when warmed up (no leaks though).

Cheers

My Diesel fiesta 2004 smells of Diesel in the cold, as does my brother's Diesel Mazda, I think it's normal for Diesel's, no sure about petrols though.

Also in mine, if it's cold, it will never start first time, I have to switch it to '2' for about 20 seconds before it will start, not the spark plugs mind, but apparently it just gives it time for the radiator to warm up the engine slightly.

Not had the revs problem however, but if it only happens when it's cold, could be the coolant. Have you got only water in your coolant, or is it water and anti-freeze? Because it could be the coolant freezing.

not sure about the fuel smell but the power loss sounds like it could be down to the air flow meter but it does not sound like it has gone so it could be a fauly sensor some where, i think, i'll have a think about it tonight cause it's been a long a day.

diesels don't have spark plugs, they have glow plugs so when you switch your ignition on the glow plugs warm up the cylinders so when the air is drawn in and the fuel fired in the cylinder it ignites and thats what gets the car going and once it's going the glow plugs SHOULD turn them selves off.

The same as on my 1.25 MK7 fiesta... Morning starts and starting after work is sometimes disaster...

Something new with this problem?

26000 miles is a long time between services, air filter, fuel filter and other service items are not going to be in the best of condition, try the full service first.
