fan still going after engine turn off

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Over the last few days I have noticed that upon exiting the car the fan is still going at quite a noise for maybe another 10 seconds after I get out the car once stopped. Is this normal? Only really noticed it since the warmer weather has kicked in.

Its due a service in the next month and MOT. Drives fine and no indicators on dash, stop start also works fine!

Is it anything or nothing you reckon?

What engine?

Sounds normal to me though, especially if you have had A/C on.

It's probably nothing if its only 10 seconds, on my first car it use to stay on for 5-10 mins but that ended up being a leaky radiator.

But with the warmer weather I wouldn't worry just make sure to check your coolant.

With it being around 25 degrees here on most days the fan usually does take a while to go off when I have parked.

its the 100 ecoboost, yeah i have had AC on too

Sounds normal to me.

My fan runs on for 5-10secs just because A/C is on.

Mines does this alot. Nothing to worry about

Mine does this too it's normal

Normal here, never thought I would say that !

Doesn't sound like anything is wrong with yours, keep us informed though.

On a similar note, years ago i had a Fiat X1/9 (picture of a similar one below but not actually mine),they have a very noisy cooling fan just for the carbs that kicks in even with the engine switched off when very hot. If i had a pound for everytime someone told me my engine was still running after walking away from it i would be a millonaire now!

My ford fiesta van is the same. I have stood outside the car with a lot of concerns because it makes a lot of noise. Its only happened with the warmer weather.

I’ve had this recently with my ford fiesta but it stays on for about 2/3mins and the temperature is only 10 degrees celcius. Any tips on what it could be?

What engine?

Top your coolant up mate

Perfectly normal. Mine does it too.
