Before the accident I had 3 full years NCD and a further year mounting up at the moment.

Am I going to lose all of it? Part of it? All but the year mounting up at the moment?

I'm 100% to blame on this one as unfortunately the lorry didn't stop for me to get his reg :taz:

I think it can vary by insurer, but 2 years seems to be the norm for first claim in a year.

Didn't you have 'protected' no claims?

I too, have always understood it to be 2 years

i think you have to get 4 years NCD before you can have it protected. Which is a tad irksome if you have a claim towards the end of your third year, just as you're coming up to your fourth year:sad:

Ah I didn't know that!  I've got 7 now and keep them protected.  The discount only applies up to 5 anyway with my insurer though.

When I had my bump I lost all but 4 years of my no claims bonus, thankfully I got it reinstated after their insurer admitted all liability thanks to my dashcam footage at the time.

But I was dropped from 15 years to just 4 years NCB.

But as said it is annoying when most only accept a maximum of 5 years anyway.

Hastings will take all but 4 years of your NCD too, then they'll dock 2 years at a time for each accident.  Seems pretty unfair that the same accident can cost a less careful driver with 4 years NCD less money than it can a careful driver with 9 years...

And the government has the bare faced cheek to call the insurance market competitive!
