My Ford Focus Mk3 Electric Steering Rack has malfunctioned, has anyone experienced the same problem please? Ford have quoted me £1,600 for a new one, recoding & labour but this is too expensive for us to pay.

I've looked on EBay for businesses that offer repairs which may be the way to go for us but people have told us that Ford have previously replaced customers Steering Racks for free as they are so expensive. Any truth in this does anyone know?

Any help or advise is most gratefully received.

if its out of warranty then your going to have to pay. if just out of warranty it will be worth contacting ford customer services and see if they will contribute. it is expensive though. dont knowanyone who refurbs them yet, its normaly an internal failure of the control module, and that part is not available seperatley.

What are the symptoms of this failing? I am suspicious of mine at the minute as it rattles extremely loudly on the right when the car turns left.

steering malfunction displays on instrument cluster, this is an electronic failure, heavy steering. no noises, rattles etc normally.

lets hope there is nothing wrong with yours!!
