How do you secure your fiesta?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what security measures you all take? Thinking about buying a disklock I think it's called to go over the steering wheel, just want to make my car more secure over night that's all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jake

Disklok for me.

Moved OBD port and fitted a dummy - you can also remove the fuse.

I also fitted a tracker.

Heard the disclock can be removed easily with a cordless angle grinder! cutting one of the small side covers that hide the hinge, then cut through the hinge pin itself.

I suppose its a good deterrent to many but a determining thief will know how to remove it.

Oh nice, where have you moved it to if you don't mind sharing? That's a clever idea, where can I find the means to do this? Tracker sounds like a good idea, do you need to pay a yearly fee or something like that? Cheers

I'd say so but hopefully I'd be waken up by that! It's either a disclock or I'm going to buy a quick release steering wheel but I'd rather not.

How easy is it to put on every time mate?

Or in the case of the fiesta (very common) , go and find another one where the owner doesn't think a disklok is worth using or too inconvenient to use.

disklok - best visual deterent going, all it needs to do is make them go and find another car .

moving/locking the OBD port - costs nothing to do and stops them plugging their device in easily/quickly.

tracker - can help you get your car back, that's if you want it back

But if the targeted vehicle has expensive alloys & tyres and a banging upgraded stereo system, then that vehicle will still be set upon

I stopped using security aids way back in 1991 as they didn't save my car from being nicked! I had a Ford Escort RS2000 and had three security devices fitted - Krooklock [steering wheel to brake pedal] - Stoplock [clamped on steering wheel] - Autolock [handbrake to gear lever] the next day my car was gone and all three devices was left on the kerb!...... If someone wants a certain vehicle for what it is, then nothing will stop it from being nicked

Park on drive, double click key to lock and walk away.

Pretty much every thread or post saying that a fiesta ST, focus RS or focus ST has been stolen shows a standard car, standard parts or whol cars will be easier to sell on, modified cars are more likely to have extra security, I've still yet to see a post from someone saying their car was stolen when a disklok was used, I have seen mention of OBD locking/moving stopping a car being stolen after it's been broken into.

To be fair none of those anti theft devices were much of a deterrent or much use even when they were first launched.

At the end of day if any sort or well organised criminals/car theft gangs want you car they will get it.

All the technology is present nowadays for them access your car electronically, disable alarms/trackers etc.

As I say its mostly higher end cars these gangs will monitor and target (german or specialist sports cars etc) but I dare say a new high spec fiesta/focus st or rs editions etc etc will be in mind too.

As I say if there professional enough and want your car then they will get it imo.

Sorry for the delayed response.

My OBD port is secured behind the dash with cable ties (I need to move it slightly as it's rattling a bit at present) and a dummy is installed in its place. If you look on my build thread (Bastian) then you'll find a link to a video about removing the OBD port. It's possible to attach an extension lead to the original port so that you can have it accessible elsewhere.

The tracker works out pretty cheap. Cost me less than £50 including hardwire kit. Access to the tracking website is £10 per year but the first year is free. I've got a GiffGaff SIM in the tracker and it costs me a few pence in data each month. Again there's more detail on my build thread.

Fitted an OBD secure lock from ProtectAVan - bolted to the chassis plates.

Are most of the cars parked on a open drive all night or a long time open car park at work.

Mine is in a locked Garage at night with cctv and i always park on a car park where there is a camera/cctv but i aint

there for that long out on car parks, just wondered reading this topic,i do have a 24/7 tracker hidden.

No worries! Oh okay I see thanks for that, I'll definitely look into getting a tracker fitted! Was the obd port as easy to move as it is in the video? That's the only thing that's worrying me about getting an ST! Just want the car to be secure overnight, so far on my list is move the obd port to a secure location, disclock, tracker and possibly a better alarm system fitted. Had a look at your build thread and I'm loving what you've done!

Removing the OBD port was very easy.

Thanks. It's a fantastic car - I'm so pleased I got it!

OBD port removed from its usual spot and hidden well away from the usual spot also removed the fuse for it

Lock mine.

Ford pass also shows the cars location.

Disklok for me.

And me.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I disabled the OBD port and put a sticker in the window. But mainly I live in a safe area, park it off the road and have a secure car park to park in at work
