I hit a car, how bad / costly do you think the damage is ? pics included

Featured Replies

Sorry, just realized no photo's were taken.

3 weeks ago I reversed into the rear bumper of a 2008 Volvo at 5 or 7 mph, the tow-bar on my car hit the Volvo. the thud was quite loud but the damage to the Volvo didn't appear too bad. the bumper had popped out but was able to push back in. there were no dents but maybe 1 or 2 very small scratches that are very hard to notice.

He said he is going on holiday for 3 weeks, he said a garage has quoted £250 to repair it and when he gets back ( almost been 3 weeks already) he is willing for me to pay him the £250 that we not need to contact our insurers .

I am worried if he contacts me that he will say the garage have upped the price further than £250.

Do you think it will be expensive to fix his bumper, as I say there are no dents to it, his bumper had popped out but was pushed neatly back in, only damage is probably 1 or 2 very small scratches that are very hard to notice.

thank you

Go to the garage with him and pay up front that way there is no come back on you, I did this when I smashed a mirror off Corsa (yay) with my bicycle, met him at the body shop they said £30 for respray on the plastics I paid up front, got a copy of the receipt and we parted ways.

sorry but what do you mean by no come back ?

Regards

By him saying to you that the garage has added another £xxx amount of cash at least being there you will get the truth

Oh yes, I see what you mean. Well I don't want to appear pushy and / or ask to many questions to him because he might just decide to involve the insurance companies. I may consider meeting him at the garage .

I gave him my mobile and house contact number but I have lost my mobile, I'm worried if he tries ringing me on my mobile that he might think I am ignoring him as it is going right to voicemail.  I'm just hoping he still has my home contact phone number if he wants to pursue this and contact me. I am also hoping that he might just decide to drop this whole case completely, that no real damage has been done, that I genuinely apologized , and that he doesn't want anybody messing with his bumper but if he does contact me then I will think of a plan of action.

also , what is the maximum time frame for somebody to make a claim ?

and btw it is my 25 th birthday today, ( not that you're bothered or anything ) but meh

Look, this isn't something we can help you with.  You hit his car, you pay the price.  Do it through insurance or through him directly.  If that involves a risk, then tough.  YOU HIT HIM.

I don't understand why you typed "pictures included" and then "realised" that you didn't take any?  Seems strange to me, like everything else you post quite frankly.  And if it doesn't make sense, it isn't true.  But, that's just my opinion, based on what I've observed of your postings.

Happy Birthday, Mark.

Volvo guy will want the car fixed one way or another, I would if you'd hit mine, regardless of how small the damage seems.  I know this isn't what you want to hear but you've really just got to wait it out and see what happens.  If you've still got his number and don't hear from him, it might be worth letting him know you've got the money when his 3 week holiday is up, that way he'll know you aren't ignoring him and will be less likely to claim.

Is this a second thread started on you having hit someone?! I swear I've read all of this before on his forum...?

EDIT: yes it is.

Both don't read well. something doesn't add up and I'm getting the feeling that Mr FastLife has done more with his insurance to get a cheaper quote than whats been stated. The fear of the insurance being involved is very apparent, but for reasons other than affected premiums and no claims discount etc.

It's like your hoping that Mr Volvo sticks to his word so you can get this fixed and out of your hair and away from a potentially bigger problem...

Yes you are correct Tom this is his second thread on the crash topic.

here is his first one

Personally I don't think there is anything untoward going on, Mark is obviously a major worrier and unfortunately I know what it's like to worry about everything all the time as well lol.

However I learnt several years ago it just annoys people if you keep venting your worries on a forum (wasn't this one!), and there's nothing anyone can do or say that will relieve that anxiety anyway.
