Tricky to get catr into gear-especially early morning

Hi 

I have a 1.8 petrol ghia on a 54 plate, the car was recently losing gearbox oil. I was advised by a mechanic this was because gearbox geal and gone- so i had it replaced. Thing is the car is still tricky to get into gear especially 1st and seems to be getting worse over the last couple of weeks. Once the car has been running for a while its OK. Car has done 134000 always serviced on time and I have been advised is one of the models where the water pump is easily accessable( not that necessarily matters in respect of this issue). I have read on here some issues with Diff pin and Gearbox's? 

Anyone has idea as to what the problem could be if it is a gearbox where can i get one and how much should it be?

    Could be the gear selector cables are rusty, try a squirt of WD40 on them see if that helps.
