Block up the extractor fans and, if they come on with the lights, disconnect them?

Our bathroom extraction fan was wired to the light, so it would be on along with the light at night or early morning.

I've had it changed; it's now wired in to the pull cord for the shower so when shower is active the extraction fan is too.

we havent had a kettle for a few years now after buying the same instant kettle. very reliable, dispences the right amount of hot water for the mugs ( adjusted once on the dial on initial set up) we use.

The thing no-one tells you about those instant kettles is just how damn loud they are!

Edit - Stupid forum...wrote a reply to the above and it disappeared when posting!

I'll try again...  My shower is one of those thermostatic Mira ones, not an electric one so there's no pull cord for it.  I am tempted to just remove the fuse from the extractor though...just not sure if that'll cause a lot of damp when using the shower.  I shower with the light off atm anyway as its freezing with the extractor a foot away from your face otherwise!  But I put it on for about 5 minutes afterwards, not sure how effective that is though...

They can be loud, 🙉

My mother has a MorphyRichards branded instant water heater and it's very loud compared to our Breville branded unit,

We had a prestige branded elementless kettle before the Breville and it was considerably louder than this unit.

our breville no louder than a normal kettle.

Fast boil kettles are louder than regular kettles

My Tesco fast boil kettle rivals the washing machine with uneven load, on a spin cycle for loudness.  It might boil a teapots worth of water in 90 seconds but it during those 90 seconds you can't hear the radio, the doorbell or hear the other party on the phone, should someone phone you at the very moment:laugh:

Very true,

my main problem is my kids walk away and leave things turned on; I have the boost socket adaptor in there bedroom for there nightlight,

and the wife goes off leaving the television on in the living room, the immersion switch saves going back upstairs to turn it off also means I can put it on at night then go to sleep with hot water ready for next morning without having to wait to turn it off,

The WiFi sockets I suppose are more of a life comfort aswell but enables me to keep my 2yr old son from ejecting the disc on my PlayStation while I'm at work as I can turn off the power via my phone. Aswell as switching on the table lamp in the living room.

I've replaced kitchen spotlight bulbs with some Tesco LED bulbs which have "Osram" branded on the base although it says Tesco on the packaging, there brighter and much cheaper on the bill as you've said mate.

I had a 50w Halogen light out the back garden and when tha bulb went in it, I decided to change the unit to led.

At the time I didn't know that LED wattage isint the same measurements as halogen wattage. I assumed they were both the same at the time so I purchased an 80W 6000k LED floodlight to replace my 50w Halogen light.

After fitting it I soon discovered that 80W LED light is equivalent to a 1000w Halogen 😂

it's like an epolisode of Cops with the helicopter every time the wife goes out to the shed at night.

Lights up the culdisac of houses out the back of our estate aswell as my entire back garden without and shadows 😀

still cheaper than 50w Halogen

It's not got any brand name on it mate it's an 80W LED flood light from this seller here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PREMIER-PIR-Motion-Sensor-LED-Floodlight-10W-20W-30W-50W-Security-Flood-Light-/201271305382?var=&hash=item2edcb464a6:m:m_XpKtZinazlFOzHtZ3xqrQ

I have it fitted around eight months now with no problems atall 👍

Forgot to add info to say;

The mounting bracket takes two M10 bolts not supplied, I purchased some from my local DIY store, if you can choose stainless steel fixing bolts then do, because they will never leave rust stains on the wall,

I also plan to purchase these to cover the bolt heads 😊

Hmm, looks like my energy monitor broke!

I swapped it onto the heater circuit and it won't work now, on either circuit.  I've tried resetting it, moving the aerial etc but it lasts a couple of minutes then just shows dashes.

Surely the sender batteries can't have died at the exact moment I moved the clamp?  They're huge D ones so not cheap to replace on the off chance that it's them either.

LED lights in every fitting in the house, including cooker extractor hood.

Apologies for the thread revival! Can you recommend an LED bulb for a cooker hood? One of ours has just gone and it won't be long til the next one goes! Would let something that actually lights up the cooker!

My hood just happened to take regular Gu10 bulbs. So I stuck in a spare LED one I had.

What fittng is the hood bulbs you need? Have a wee look on LEDhut

Automatically turns on devices when entering room aswell as off after everyone has left the room for set time period.

also has built in dusk-dawn sensor to control lightingif room is dark on entry it also turns on table lamp 👍

(Additional socket adaptor is required for separate independent control of a light)

Does anyone happen to know what is LED equivalent of a 100w old fashioned GLS or (18w CFL) is?

My Googling keeps throwing up halogen equivalents, and not GLS/CFL equivalents.  I've used 9w LED instead of 60w GLS, in my bulkhead in the garden

My hall lights were 100w GLS, are currently 18w CFL but I'm on my last bulb, I want to replace them with LEDs when that gives up.  Yesterday's flickering and dropping lumens suggests that won't be too long

Ive bought solus branded bulb in Tesco for €15

Its efficiency is rated A++
Called Solus Xcross Filament Bayonet cap A55

is 7.5watt LED provides 60watt output equivalent warm white light plenty bright,
I have it in the hallway stays on all night

There mighty efficent worth holding out for a 100W to becoma available,
"Solus" is the Irish word for light pronounced Sullus.

This particular model is said to be 87% more energy efficent than a standard 60w bulb and lasts 15 years.

Hopefully available in Tesco uk,
I'm also willing to post if anyone is interested in purchasing I can purchase and post.

Thanks Lenny:smile:

I found some similar ones at Screwfix for the hall lights,

It seems Philips have just launched an LED that equivalent to the old GLS 100w, I'm sure that wasn't on the website on Thursday, when I was putting my order together
