Ford focus 2012 error codes

Featured Replies

so your having a new turbo monday then? as wastegate is part of turbo.

  • Author

They are only replacing the waste gate part of the turbo which im lead to belive its a valve on the turbo

new to me you can get it separate, get them to show you what part they have replaced.

i would put a dab of paint on the wastegate valve before you take it in , so you know if they replaced it or not.

They are getting the part from ford

And its being fitted monday  would that  chuck up the air flow issue aswell

" The vacuum actuator is preset during manufacture and must not be tampered with."

thats from ford. for any turbo actuator fault, a new turbo is required.

i think my original guess early on in this topic may be what the issue is , and what they are changing, the recirc valve, it can cause ovetboost and maf issues.

So what your saying is  the whole turbo needs to be replaced guessing you were right all along well they have changed battery and turbo.sensor thats why its  only chucking those two messages up now

looks like this, ive changed a few.

Where too is it located on the.engine.to left right etc atleast i know what it looks like.now

But regarding the air dtc do you think that will get resolved by changing that part ? To the turbo

the photo is the recirc valve , thats located low down on turbo assy at the front. held in place with 3 screws , the turbo actuator is at the top of turbo with a rod attatched to internal wastegate.

Hey guys start stop works

When i clear all faults

I think a picture is emerging from this mass of somewhat confusing data. This is how I see it, I may be wrong, and if so I am sure Ian will quickly point out the flaws!

The diagnostic codes point to:

P006A MAP sensor (which measures the inlet manifold pressure, so it measures the turbo boost pressure).

P0039 Turbo/Super Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit. This, I am fairly sure is the recirc valve, not the wastegate.

B1318: Battery voltage low. This error, in turn, was causing a lot of other, voltage related errors.

The turbo wastegate is on the exhaust side of the turbocharger, and controls how much power goes in to the turbine stage of the turbo. This seems to be a red herring, and hopefully is just the garage talking wrong, and they really mean the recirc valve.

A main function of the bypass valve is to avoid stalling the compressor when the throttle is suddenly closed, like when changing gear. A "stall" is when any moving vane or wing is deprived of sufficient air flow to operate, and it loses lift or force to move the air. When this happens, the compressor will no longer be doing useful work, it will just be spinning the air already in it, and it will tend to speed up.

In short, closing the throttle can cause the turbo to overspeed, and be damaged, unless a bypass route is made available so air can keep on flowing. Thus the need for this recirc or bypass valve. It is on the air intake, or compressor, side of the turbo.

The MAP DTC is: MAP - Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation Bank 1.

This could be the MAP, but it could also be that the MAP readings do not match something else (correlation), in this case a non-working bypass valve may be giving unexpected pressures.

This leaves the battery fault. This could be: the recirc valve problem is causing a failure to charge properly; or the wrong type of battery is fitted; or some other problem. But it looks like the recirc valve needs fixing first.

Please,i have a ford focus 2011, today  i foud that  he has error code c 28. Please who know what it is?

Sorry, that is not a valid code.

DTCs read by a code reader will start with one of the letters P,B,C,U, and have 4 digits or letters following, eg P0299 or U1900.

Codes read from the Instrument Cluster display will have 6 letters (A to F only) or digits (0 to 9), though only the first 4 are really useful. There is a method to convert cluster codes to proper DTCs. See:

I recommend getting a diagnostic code reader, they are cheap and easy to use. Generic OBD2 readers will read most engine related codes. But for some problems, you would need Forscan, a Ford specific system that can read all codes from all parts of the car. It only costs £20 (if you have a windows laptop) to about £30 (smartphone / tablet app).

I have the P006A and P0039 error code combo on the same model/year. Can I ask how much you paid for the fix? Did they replace the whole turbo?

They look like codes from the "secret" dash test. They decode to:

U0558: Invalid Data Received From Front Controls / Display Interface Module

U0401 Invalid Data Received From ECM/PCM

I am not sure what the front controls are, maybe the steering wheel buttons that control the information display. Sounds like a bad connection or intermittent fault in the Display interface / Information display / radio unit. I would ignore the PCM message as that may be a result of the 1st one.

To decode all dash test codes:
