Tapping noise

Hi guys new member.

I have a ford focus 1.6 2009 when I bought it about 3 months ago it was very quiet no tapping now it has a tapping noise which started about month and half ago I thought it was tappets but I am told this model has shim and buckets not hydraulic tappets and the tapping could be the flaps inside my inlet manifold are worn and I should replace it but it is £340 at ford I am confused because one minute she is very quiet and in a short amount of time she is noisy. Please help
