Focus turbos

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new to this group!! I would like some advice with my ford focus 1.6tdci 57 plate. The car was misfiring which was scary going 70 the motorway so it's been to the garage and had a new turbo aswell as some other pipes and stuff including a fuel filter. Any  way it was in the garage for a month and I was so pleased to finally get a call to say my car was ready and working perfect so when I went to pick the car up I noticed when I was driving that the car feels like it is ristricted ( like it was driving in limp mode) most of the time but ocassionally it works fine. Does anybody no what the problem could be? I've had nothing but problems with this car and I'm desperate to get it sorted. 😊

Hi Laura,

How trustworthy is the garage?

If misfiring means missing occasional single beats, then turbo problems seem very unlikely to be the cause. Fuel supply (filter or fuel pipes), or injectors are more likely.

If it is in "limp mode", then a warning light will be on, always. Though I have heard of one case where a warning light itself stopped working, unexpectedly(?) after a visit to a garage. The error was still there.

Restricted power, but driving ok at lower throttle openings, suggests a turbo problem.

I think you either need to investigate DIY diagnostics (and Forscan is a very powerful system, available for just £15 if you have a windows laptop), or take the car to a diesel specialist with a good reputation.

Without diagnostic codes, a problem like that could have many causes, I am afraid. I, or others here, could help with the DIY diagnostics route, but it is not always easy or straightforward.

Peter.
