Can anyone please help me locate idle speed valve for my Ford Focus Titanium 2008. My rev counter has suddenly gone high and I read somewhere that the idle speed valve needs cleaning. Is that right. Thanks very much. I'm a new member.

Hi,

You ought to say which engine it is for! However, none of the 2008 Focus engines have an idle speed valve, as far as I know. They all have a motorised throttle body, which controls the air flow all the way from idle to full power. It is controlled by the pcm (engine computer) based on sensors on the accelerator pedal and engine.

It will be fairly clearly sited in the intake just before the inlet manifold. It can fail mechanically, with the valve sticking or jamming. More frequently it fails electrically, with internal or external bad connections. Try disconnecting & reconnecting the connector, to see if that make a difference. Major problems with this unit should cause the EML (Engine warning light) to come on, with a code that can be read by any OBD2 scanner. There can be codes present without the EML coming on, it is always worth doing a scan. I advise you buy one if you do not have one, they are usually under £10.
