What does this dashboard light mean, it is an explanation mark with a cog around it ??

Featured Replies

car is 5 speed manual 2006 mk2 ford focus sport 1.8 tdci

This light came on last year very briefly for several weeks about a year ago, it would come on then go off within seconds, it came on again the other day  after a cold engine start, the maf or its wiring is faulty and it runs a little erratic from cold start vbut is fine when warm, this light comes on when that happens

a explanation mark like parking brake, but has a clog around it. somebody said it means transmission, somebody else said it is for powertrain or something ??

car goes into gear fantastically with no problems at all, it just clunks from gears 1-3 when depressing clutch. has done since I owned the car, noticed it a week after buying it.

any ideas ?

thanks !

It is the Engine Systems Light. It handles various faults, but the only time I have seen it on is for electrical faults that affect communications between modules. Eg CAN bus faults. It would need a good, Ford specific diagnostic system like Forscan to be sure of detecting the DTCs that will be behind this light.

I note you have a 2006 Focus. These are very, very prone to instrument cluster (IC) faults, typically the CAN bus connections on the back of the IC pcb. I had this last Feb, fixed it for £0.00, apart from getting a Forscan system for £15.

If a Ford Stealer fixes it, it will be about £800 or more.

If it is the IC, it will become more frequent, and other warning lights will come on. Eventually the immobiliser will not deactivate. So it is worth keeping an eye on.
