My mate is trying to sell this idea to me, any good? Pro's and cons? I have a 55 plate Mondeo 2L TDCi

eeew a relay in a box, that never a good start.  remap over OBD are better, then this type of thing.  Why? because if there is a problem that the ECU can apt to by modifying its setting, it cant do that as well when being feed by false details.  Get a proper remap by a good company.

I've got a 2008 1.6TDCi Focus that I had ECU remapped back in June. There is a definite noticeable power and torque increase, as well as an MPG increase too. I know loads of people who have Bluesparks and never had any issues with them, but I would say put a little bit extra cash into it and get it remapped by someone who knows what they're doing. A company called Hyperchips did ours, he came out to the house and took out the ECU and did what he had to do in his van, then reinstalled and sealed everything back up. Took about 1h total and it was £250 

Thanks for the replies. I'm not going to bother with the chip or remap. I have one of those friends who thinks he knows best all the time but as I pointed out to him, I don't do the miles to warrant the price. 

An ECU Remap as stated above is your best bet. But don't just choose anyone to do it - there are blummin’ hundreds of these so called "remap specialists" popping up everywhere and most are nothing but potential trouble who rely on a generic map that might not work for you.

A proper remap should take place on a dyno by an actual professional who can write and tweak the map to best suit your engine’s characteristics as EVERY car is different regardless if they have the same engine. – This can be quite costly but you can drive knowing your engine is going to be fine.

I had one generic map done a couple years back on mine, and whilst the extra power was noticeable, my engine’s new behavior was not favorable. In the end I had to remove it as she just wasn’t happy driving. The map I had for mine was from Romania and the fuel setting was leaned out too much to improve MPG. Madness.

Obviously, others will disagree and will have had a better experience than I, but if you care about your car, go to a certified and professional remapping facility.
