Ford fiesta mk6 1.4lx white smoke smells like fuel

Featured Replies

Hi, i am new here and i recently bought a ford fiesta it has 81 000 miles on clock.

There is a white smoke coming out which smells like fuel all the time, any suggestions what could it be? Thank you

Its 1.4 petrol

I'd get the head gasket checked.

The smoke is possibly coolant mixing with the engine gasses producing steam.

Some steam is normal with a cold engine but once warmed up should stop.

If your coolant level is also dropping then that would be another clue.

Possibly a bad o2 sensor causing overfuelling as well but less likely.

Get the coolant tested first for the presence of hydrocarbons (sniff test) and work from there.

being exhaust, its not going to smell pretty and after start up will have a fuel smell as the engine has pumped in fuel to get the engine started - are you sure its white smoke and not steam? mine steams like a train in the morning and so does the Mrs' focus - with it being almost 0oC outside its going to steam up, especially if you do short journeys as the condensation collects in the pipes at night and heats up the next time round producing steam clouds - but as above, after a longer run and heating up to proper temperature it should stop resembling a choo choo.
