Bad Motor Options

Featured Replies

Hey peeps hope you can help me make a decision, as the last one I made wasn't just bad but so plainly stupid I feel sick thinking WTF was I thinking!

Just bought a fiesta privately and in hind sight I did all the things I have normally warned others not to do and have been informed so many times by everyone! 😞

So now I have me a 09 plate Fiesta 1.6 Tdci 90 Titanium (Duratorq-TDCI) it has 136k on the clock. Not in too bad condition and looks clean.

However took it to Ford dealership for a service ASAP as on the way home it didn't feel right and when I stopped the engine there was a whirling noise 😨

Turns out the whirling noise is from the heater motor. The front break pads and discs are at 85% - but I cant understand why when the MOT in April had no advisories and it's only done 1k since then? And the back box is rusty. The front tyres also need replacing.

So my Q is how much on average am I looking at as Ford have not really quoted me for everything and said come back if you want it doing - seems as they weren't interested in it. And should I prob just cut my losses and give it away what what ever is on offer?

Just an update - in a fit of panic I took it down to a local and got some reassurance off them and it's not all too bad.

Obviously the front break and pads will need doing. The back box looks bad aesthetically, but not anything that would fail an MOT or anything.

The noise that can be heard needs further investigating and is not the blower (we are unsure as to where Ford picked this up from) - It's coming from the central control and more like electrical which I did mention to ford but they said they couldn't hear or find anything.

Could Ford have meant the heater resistor? I've seen loads on this since I started looking for blower issues. And seems like a job I could tackle myself.

But the noise sounds like the electrics from the centre console. It's intermittent and seems to stay for a while after the engine has been switched off, once eventually it goes it will come back either on its own or for example when the doors opened or keys turned. Can't really hear it when engine is on. Don't really fancy paying the quoted £190 for the blower part if it's not that.

A bit peed off - with myself. The few hundred  £ saving I thought I had made has turned into few hundred £ more over the value of the car. But at least the damage isn't anywhere as bad as what I originally thought. And will still wonder how it managed to pass it's last mot with no advisories 🤔

Thanks for reading my rant... still open to ideas about this noise 😊

probably the climate control temp sensor.

So I just followee the pics and the most difficult bit was getting the actual climate control unit to slide out.

I found the sensor and that is what is making the noise. Makes sense now what ford were saying.

Ford had the adapter in stock so tried this. Although it made some reduction in the noise - It's still there :wallbash:

So I guess I'll either live with it or if I find the part at a decent price I'll change it myself - if thats possible.

Thanks for your help tho
