It's my Birthday today, so I bought myself a little upgrade!

Ford Focus RS Airbox - increased airflow, but I bought it for sound mostly! Took my box lid off today for a rev and what a noise! I also want to retain the OEM filter as I'm not keen on K&N etc so it's the best of both worlds! Cannot wait for it to arrive to fit it!

Lol, my Dads birthday today as well...  I doubt he's got anything as exciting as that though!

Let us know how it sounds, ive thought about one for mine. I take it you will have to buy the additional cold air feed pipes from Ford? The ST has an extra feed to the bottom of it that ours doesnt have. Or you could just fit the lid! It might cause the car to go into limp mode on hot days, mine does it with my open end K&N sometimes. Its very common on the Fiesta ST (same engine as mine) if running an open filter.

PumaSpeed suggest it's a direct replacement for the current box, but the idea to use just the lid is my plan for now. - you are right in what you're saying though about the extra feed but it should be ok without the extra pipes.

wonder why it would go into limp mode though... Mountune make an open end feed box for our engines including the fiesta but you'd think they would cause the same issue?

Happy birthday, but just an FYI, I've read the RS has something different for the bonnet insulation above the air box.

This should still allow the bonnet to close but the insulation will cover up the vent on top quite well, so with the bonnet shut it won't sound much different.

It's mainly for a bit more airflow over the top of the filter and also more noise and airflow when the car is on a dyno with bonnet up.

Pumaspeed states direct replacement for ST250 and 1.6 ecoboost. Maybe it comes with the extra pipes then? It would be an additional feed plus a 1 into 2 adapter at the slam panel.

Dont know why it goes into limp mode mate and it doesnt log any readable codes either on the built in DTC menu or on my reader. I also got my mate to run it on Fords IDS? when he was servicing it for me and there was no trace there either. I read about it being common in Fast Ford too. Im sure a remap would sort it out.

Ive had my K&N back on since October and it hasnt done it since. I will see if it starts happening again in the spring when it warms up. I could always put the removable bung back in it but i like the sound too much!
