Starting problems during really cold mornings

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New here but have an issue with the missus's car:

Fiesta '06 Zetec-S

It has trouble starting on very cold mornings.....tries to turn over but then fails.....almost like there's not enough air or fuel getting through. No issues once started.

If you put your foot on the accelerator when starting, it starts ok.

I've changed plugs and air filter (as part of the a service). I've also used some injector cleaner in it which has helped a bit with the general running but problem still there.

Here's my thoughts on what I'l be trying the weekend but if anyone could shed any light, I'd be most grateful.

Thinking maybe the throttle body may need cleaning as may be sticking shut?

Coolant Temp sensor?

Air Temp Sensor?

Engine Coolant Sensor?

I initially thought it may be the fuel filter or fuel pump but as it's only issues during the cold, made me think more of a sensor issue making the mixture too lean/rich. Doesn't appear to be battery or starter motor related either.

No lights on dash either indicating problems.

Also I don't really know where these things are so if anyone has any pic etc, that would be grand too.....Happy New Year btw :)

Thanks.

Mark.

Welcome to the site Mark. Happy new year to you too!

Very similar to my wifes old 2007 Punto and that was the MAP sensor. Gave it a clean with contact cleaner and was fine for another 6 months then it went again so just replaced it and that solved the issue. It never showed up on a code reader either while the fault was present!

Double posted again!
