Car trying to catch up with the revs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Maybe a simple explanation so apologies in advanced,

My Car is trying to catch up with the revs when driving. from 2nd to 3rd gear it mostly happens. High revs and nothing. it sorts itself out after 10 - 15 minutes, but a tad worried. a friend said that the clutch is going, but though id get a experts opinion on this. hope i've explained ok.

when had to call the rac and change the battery, i asked him to see what the engine light was on for, (keeps going on for a couple of days then off), he used the code machine and got the code P0720 which is the output speed sensor circuit, has this got anything to do with the issue ive got?

Thanks :)

Does sound a bit like the clutch is slipping when cold.

Stick it in 5th at 30mph and try and accelerate (not harshly or you'll lug the engine), if the revs rise quickly then it's slipping.

OK I tried that and no high revs. Not sure what's going on tbh lol

It could still be the clutch. You have more torque in 2nd and 3rd gear than at 30 mph in 5th which would put more strain on it.
