Hex Bolts!

Featured Replies

About to attempt changing the front brake pads on my mk2 57 plate Focus 1.8.  Have been told that Hex bolts hold on the calipers.  Does anyone know what size they are and if an allen key would suffice or is there special tooling required for the job?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The caliper guide pins need a 7mm a/f hex bit if I recall correctly. An allen key might need an extension tube to loosen them, though they are not supposed to be very tight (28Nm front, 35Nm back in Haynes). A kit of hex bits with standard 1/2 in drive, used with a ratchet would be better. That's what I use.

The guide pins need a silicone or rubber friendly grease. Some pads come with this.
