Ford galaxy 08 2.0cdti auto transmission service required

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can help. A few days ago my Ford Galaxy displayed a warning "service transmission" at the same time "service engine oil" then "ENGINE MALFUNCTION". So i took the car to the garage for a fault diagnosis, the garage came back with the verdict that many faults had occurred and this was due to the battery not holding enough charge making the sensors throw up false errors. The battery was changed and the faults wiped. The car drove fine for a day then this morning threw up the same faults as shown above. The car has been in the garage who have gave me a auto scan report saying that the PCP, TCM and modules have failed and the ABS is now showing a a fault code as well.

Has anyone seen these symptoms before?

Could they be related?

The garage told me this time they could not remove the fault codes as they would not erase however my hand held OBD reader cleared them, obviously they will be back very soon. at the minute the car is driving absolutely fine but  this wont last long im guessing.

Any help / advise would be greatly appreciated. - Thanks in advance.

If DTCs for lots of modules are appearing without apparent reason, then it is probably either system voltage variations, or a wiring fault.

Dodgy alternator or charging system can cause voltage variations, as well as the battery. If the garage really detected voltage problems (and it was not just a fob off to sell you a new battery!), then alternator it the next suspect. Monitoring the system voltage while driving would be the best way to check this.

Bad connections in the car's main CAN bus can cause loads of errors. Ideally you need an in depth, Ford specific scanner like Forscan (under £15 if you have a windows laptop), this can probe all modules and read all codes.

The CAN bus goes through several connectors, but wiring faults within the loom are, unfortunately, also possible.

Some CAN bus faults can be detected by measuring the resistance between the two lines (ignition off for some time). Pins 6 & 14 on the diagnostic connector should have these lines. 60 ohms is the correct reading, and needs continuity from one end to the other of the bus to obtain this.

I do recommend you get Forscan or something similar. Leaving this sort of problem to a garage can be very time consuming & expensive.
