Heater blower directional knob not working

Featured Replies

Our 2006 1.8tdci has always had a stiff knob for the air direction flow bit.

The other day it clicked and now is much easier to move but the air flow is only straight at you.

Any ideas?

The knob rotates a coiled spring cable with plastic ends that clip into the knob on one end and the vent selector on the other end.
It sounds like one of the ends has either broken or come out.
It is fiddly but fixable.
You'll need to pull out the the radio, unscrew remove the radio surround then unscrew and pull forward the demister switch panel.
This will give you access to the back of the knobs to check.

I finally got round to removing the radio/cd, the cable is attached to the knob but the other end has broken off(yellow bit) i could not see where it went , so will order a new one and have another look

Have you found where the other end connects uo under the dash?
It can be a faff to find, but if a bit of yellow plastic is still in the socket it should be easier to see.

Hi there similar problem with my s-max I am trying to do a quick fix and get the airflow to the windscreen as winter approaches I’m looking for the best way to access the vent selector bypass mechanism that the yellow bit of the cable above attaches to?!?!

Yep......same prob. Took everything off at the front (radio out/surrounding trim removed) to get to back of switches. Yellow lever snapped but still attached to switch......but I could not find where it connected to on the other end.....any ideas?

Warming up this old conversation. My yellow plastic on the cable also broke recently. I found out where is coming from/inserted, hidden around the corner close to where the cable was hanging. I hope I can pull out the remaining part. But can anyone recall how to get the new cable correctly indexed, so that the function corresponds to the knob setting?

The cable is indexed at both ends. It’s fairly easy to pull out the remaining with a small pair of pliers. I used the camera on my phone to locate it and to verify the position after it was inserted.

I'm sure that information will help many a knob 😉
