2015 Mondeo Powershift transmission problem

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm new to the forum so i'm sorry if this posted in the wrong place :)

I have a 2015 Mondeo diesel with the Powershift transmission. It's currently sitting at a Ford dealership for the second time in 3 months because of a fault with the gearbox. A message in the LCD display pops up and says "Gearbox malfunction gearbox has limited functionality"  This is closely followed by a period of lively but entirely random up/down shifts making it almost impossible to drive. You stop......you switch the ignition on and off......and away you go.......but then 20 minutes later the problem repeats.

The first time i took the car back to Ford with this fault they had it for 2 days and then handed it back saying the couldn't find anything wrong with it.  To be fair, for the next 2 months or so it didn't happen again and the car behaved itself. That was until this morning.

Ford seem to have no idea what might be causing this.  I cant find any similar issues reported on Google etc.  I was just wondering if anyone out there might have come across this or something similar before ?

Worth mentioning that the dealership were pretty good in responding to my plea for help. They took the car straight in and even sorted me out a hire car while i waited/did the paperwork so i wasn't stranded. That's either great customer care or an indication that I shouldn't expect to see my Mondeo again anytime soon....you decide :)

Any advice / info would be appreciated.

Regards

Mike

I have experienced the same message on my mondeo 2015 diesel but mine is slipping out of gear and somtimes looses power and i need to stop and start again,

Hi

several things,
a poor battery can cause these issues - even one that seems to be good and even though you have the engine running
A poor battery will cause the voltage charging system to over voltage the battery and therfore the modules in the car get upset and get canbus issues the "van bus" version is the most susceptible to car voltage issues
Poor earth strap to the engine is another common issue
Oil level inside the box
Problems with the wiring loom where it goes under the radiator, and/or under the chassis leg on the left NS of the car water ingress into the loom
