Water loss out of header tank

My 2009 Focus 1.8 tdci is using a little water about half a litre a week, I've checked the oil and no water in there, it's also got a little wering noise and a slight smell of burning in the engine, any ideas anyone, its covered only 34.000 since new

Check your header tank cap is sealing properly - these tend to fail on Ford tanks, quite early too. Make sure the seal hasnt perished etc, or replace it for £10 off ebay.

Check the pipes leading to and from are sealed correctly and aren't dripping.

( water ) Check the water pump isn't leaking and ( whining ) check the belt as many have stated before there belts have snapped before the said time ( burning ) could be oil dripping when at correct temperature / belt 1'c that's warmed up check the belt asap as the injectors will be your least problem if it snaps.
