Drove to work this morning for the first time and the temp needle only just got to the first white line is this right or do I have to get my hands dirty....the pic is when I got to work which is 8miles away...

Any help would be appreciated

    If it is a petrol engine (which it is judging by the tachometer), then it should reach bang-on half way within 2-3 miles, if not sooner.  That would suggest your thermostat is stuck wide open.  I cannot think of any engine that should still be cold after 8 miles.

    A diesel in cold weather with the heaters on probably wouldn't be very warm after 8 miles.
