insurance - total loss ??

If insurance declares your car as a total loss. Can you claim from the insurance for the money you spent on the car for parts etc

    No, they will pay market value for a similar spec and condition  (as in buying price not selling price) if you had just replied the engine that wouldn't matter to them.

    Total loss as in uneconomical to repair, or total loss as in, beyond the insurers? Can you buy it back and get it repaired yourself (and therefore keep your parts)?
