2013 Focus 1.0 no hot air from heater & coolant water in drivers footwell

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to this forum and require some advice/help urgently. I bought a 2013 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost a few weeks ago. The other day when it was raining I turned the heating on and realised I was getting no hot air. I checked yesterday and noticed that the coolant level had dropped slightly and while I was giving the car a clean I found water in the drivers footwell. Any advice on what the issue is and how I can fix it will be most welcome as I am worried about the engine overheating and blowing the head gasket if the coolant level drops too much.

sounds like your heater matrix pipes are leaking, been a few on here with the same issue. the place to look for leak is the 2 coolant pipes that come through bulkhead near clutch pedal area. the is a joint with "O"ring seals that can leak. unfortunatly it seams you cant get the seals a d ford now only supply the heater matrix without the joints. therefore dash out and heater box strip.
one member on here has cut the leaking pipe joint out and rejoined with rubber hose and clips. how sucessfull that was i dont know.

Bought it privately so no warranty

Thanks iantt will have a look at the pipes you mentioned and see if it's them and if there's any way of sorting it out without having to do the heater matrix as that's a massive job and I'm not sure if that's something I can do as it requires the removal of the whole dash

as i said before, someone on here had a go at cutting the affected leaking seals and re join. will see if i can find the thread and post up here.

Thanks mate

cant find it anywhere, basically the metal pipes were cut and 2 lengths of rubber hose and jubilee clips were used to re join

Hi guys sorry I know I'm abit late but finally managed to get some work done on the car and it seems to have worked. As you guys said I couldn't get a replacement seal and I tried a few others but 1 was too big so wouldn't fit and the other was too small. In the end I ended up using some of that teflon tape plumbers use on joints for gas pipes. I wrapped it around the top pipe which is the smaller one that goes into the larger bottom pipe, and joined the pipes. That seems to have done the trick as the pipes are now a much tighter fit and the tape I wrapped around the pipe seems to be doing the job of the seal. I was unable to put the clip back on that held the two pipes together as it wouldn't lock in its place so I got it as tight as I possibly could and tied a plastic tie around it and it seems to be holding for now. Had to bleed the system of air as I wasn't getting hot air from the heating vents at first and now all seems ok. Hope it lasts if not then I will have to use the rubber hose n jubilee clips. Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated.👍
