air con faliure

I have a ford fiesta 2010 zetec.  in a nutshell air con stopped working so had it re-gassed the mobile recon man said it had a leak and so it couldn't be re gassed and he didn't do repairs  advised to take it to a garage and get it checked for leaks..

first  wellknown /nationwide garage said it was the condenser and quoted me £550 for parts and labour, thought id get a second opinion from a second garage and they said it was the compressor quoted me £440 parts and labour. question are either of them right and are how can both garages say its a different fault, seems a lot to folk out if these parts are not really needed. is there anyway of telling for sure. I'm not sure what to do now, thanks for any advice.

If you have a leek you should be able to see a greenish dye mark where the gas as come out more so as you have just had it re gassed.  I would take it to an Air con specialist that specialises in Air con you should be able to find one locally  I'm sure .Will more than likely be cheaper than large nationwide boys who are just after the best yield from the customer they can get. Not only that they will know what they are doing (hopefully). An example I when to a well known national once for a back box for my exhaust as it had a hole they wanted to fit the whole thing manifold and all  front to back as they said the rest was no good it in fact was perfectly fine true story

thanks for the advice I will do that thanks

My 2012 Focus has been diagnosed with condenser failure today - the Ford dealer offered a pattern part fitted for just over £300.

I found this website today - £64.74 for the part. Need to make some more enquiries

Only if dye has previously been put in, UV light will make it flouresce.
