Focus Clutch gone?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We have a 61 plate Focus 1.6 Diesel ECOnetic, its the facelift model so same as 2013 shape.

Today the car brokedown and would not go into gear. once stopped the scenario was that when the engine was turned off, it was possible to move the gearstick into any gear, so reverse, 1st, 2nd, etc. However as soon as the engine was started it was not possible to move the gearstick into any gear even with the clutch down.

However if you put the car into a gear such as 1st or 2nd, then dipped the clutch and started the car it was possible to pull off and leave it in that gear so thats how we got home in the end.

Also when leaving the car in neutral and then starting, it was not possible to move into a gear, however when dipping the clutch and trying to push into gear it would not go into gear but would start to try and move forward.

The AA attended and immediately said its the clutch however seems odd that it started fine and drove once gear was selected while car was off, any thoughts?
