Earthing question, mk2.5 focus zetec

Featured Replies

Hi all, just a quick one,

When I'm driving I have an intermittent fault happening, as follows

Windows and indicstors stop working, and I get traction control light and abs randomly flashing, also info screen displays power steering malfunction,

Not I'm not daft and have checked steering fluid level, all is fine,

I think its an earthing problem, but when earth could it be and where?

Surely there is one that connects all the above?

The car has had a brand new alternator and I'm thinking its perhaps linked,

If anyone has any ideas please comment, also this does not effect the driving or engine I found this earth and think its the one, but where is it on the car

Any braking action by the car, or the noise of the ABS/TC pump?

Do you get any other changes on the clocks, such as temperature going to dashes, speedo/tacho/temp/fuel level dropping or acting strange, or odometer going to dashes?

Helps if you can check the codes - this may be the classical instrument cluster connector fault. You should have a "U" code stored if it is this. The connector soldering can fail and cause can-bus communication errors. Can you replicate or fix the fault by pressing/tapping on the clocks?

Thanks for the reply but I found the problem, it seems to have a new alternator on recently and the garage hadn't clipped the main plug in properly, hence an intermittent fault showing as I drove it made and lost connection
