Some help valuing my Ford

Featured Replies

Hello, friendly Ford people. Newbie here and I'm wondering if you can help me. I own a Ford Sierra Sapphire (J-reg, 1991) that I need to sell, but I have no idea what a decent/reasonable price is for it.

As a car, I am really fond of it (driving it and just the car generally) and would happily not be selling it. However, my mum was recently diagnosed with cancer and I felt I just needed something newer and more reliable - with no 'old car niggles' as, well, if I have to rush over to my parents' place or drive her anywhere (to appointments or wherever), I don't want it breaking down on me. I just felt this was more unlikely with a newer car.

I also felt that someone who really loves these old(er) cars would appreciate it more than I do; every time I take it to a garage it the mechanics always get a bit nostalgic over it. Although I'm fond of it, I know very little about cars and just use it for a run around.

So, here's a bit more info about it. It's got 95k on the clock. It passed its last MOT (June) without issue - guy said the engine's in good nick. It was owned by an old couple before me and I don't thrash it around. The exhaust probably needs replacing (it's making that farty noise that I'm guessing it indicative of a rust-hole somewhere on it). It needs a new drivers' side indicator cover and it overheated twice recently, but my mate told me that it was probably the water cap that wasn't fitting properly so the system wasn't pressurising. I replaced that and it's been fine since. Basically, it's probably got a number of little mechanical/cosmetic niggles that I've just lived with, but someone who knows more about these cars would just fix easy enough. The one big cosmetic thing is it's a white care with one black door. Bent the thing off on a railing when a I reversed and a mate hadn't closed the door properly (was more than a bit pi55ed about that, still, my fault ultimately, I guess). Took ages to wait for a replacement that'd fit to turn up at the breakers yard. Apparently: dor for a normal Sierra, fine. Sapphire, rare. One turned up, it was black, I didn't care. Anyway, the engine and body are generally in, as far as I know, good nick.

So, I'm just wondering what it's reasonable to expect for it. Any questions, I'm happy to answer as best I can. Any help you can provide, I'll be incredibly grateful for.

Thank you!

That's pretty rare tbh...the howmanyleft website suggests there are only 2 Sierra Sapphire Quartz petrols left on the road, and 12 SORN currently.

If you're on facebook, I bet someone on the 'East Coast Retro' page would snap it up quickly!

Interesting. I had no idea. Mine's currently SORN. I've got to rush out in a min, but thanks so much for the info. I'll check out that page on FB and be back on here later.

Thanks again!
