Ford Fiesta Oil Usage

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

Recently joined this site and was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem.

Basically i have an 03 plate Fiesta 1.4 Zetec that has done just over 155k miles and the problem is that it is using a lot of oil, im filling it up every 300-400 miles and i dont think thats normal? Any help would be appreciated!

Granted the mileage is a little high it definitely should not be losing much oil, it's probably one of two things, the first being an oil leak which would be fairly obvious as you'd see spots of a oil after parking up.

I'd usually recommend taking a look in the engine bay to see if there is oil around the engine, especially by the seals/gaskets but that isn't a definitive yes/no on a leak as it may just be oily due to mileage and inevitable seepage, I can speak from experience on this as I still own an 05 Corsa with 192,000 miles, original petrol engine and the bay is dirty.

Lastly it probably already is but doing more so than it should and that would be burning oil. You'd probably have to take it to a garage to get this diagnose unless you have the confidence in taking the engine apart and looking up what you need to look for in regards to the problem on your 03 Fiesta.

I am by no means a mechanic so please do a little research and you may find something I haven't mentioned.

Thank you for the reply, although i have never seen an oil leak under the car, before I bought it a previos MOT said it had one but most recent did not have any mention of it.

I will have a look at the engine when i get a chance to.

I probably need to take it to a garage as ive only got a fairly basic knowledge of the engine.

Thanks again!

Wouldn't be suprised if the piston rings have worn too much and it's started to burn oil at that sort of milage. I take it you're getting more smoke out the exhaust than usual? It's done well to get to 155k though.

Hey

Have you checked all of the breather system piping.

Overpressuring during driving will force oil past worn seals etc.

Are you using 5-30 oil.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I dont see any smoke at all apart from in the cold mornings, I'll have to get it looked at soon by the sounds of things.

Again not sure how id check those but definitely will get it to a garage this weekend. I do use 5-30 oil.

My heat shield fell off last night so im hoping thats not too much of a problem?
