I'm a newby  

Want to use an elm 327 to try and clear a possible DTC code on my 2011 1.6 Eco - boost Focus, its the Titanium Navigator version that has a "start button" - my question may sound stupid but here goes .

How do I put on the ignition without starting the car ? ... as nothing "lights" on the dash until the button is pressed . Any hints - tips gratefully received.
