2012 focus 1.5petrol

Featured Replies

Hi all, new here.

Ive recently bought a 2012 focus titainium. Its the 1.5 petrol 140somthing bhp or what ever it is.

So the symptoms are as follows,

Loss of coolant - appox 25% every 2 days

Engine sounds very "ticky" like a 1.2 y reg corsa.

A watery oily discharge from exhaust.

Excessive steam from exhaust.

And the temp gauge dosnt gradually build up. Ill be driving for like 3 mineuts and the temp gauge will shoot from zero to half way only after a mile or so. It dosnt gradually climb. One mineut it shows cold. Then straight uptp half way.

Any ideas?

Thankyou in advance

Head gasket!

90% certain I would say.

It might just be worth checking if it has a water cooled turbo, or an EGR cooler, leaks in these could be similar.

Look inside the crankcase ventilation hoses. Grey emulsion on the walls is a real tell-tale of HG leaks.

Brilliant. Thankyou for your reply Peter.

Head gasket is likely.  Now you know why the previous owner got rid.

Cheers guys.

I bought it from a dealer so its still under warranty.

Strange as according to the service book it was serviced by ford 3 weeks prior to me buying it.

Do you mean it's the 1.6 ecoboost 150hp? What dealer did you buy it from? Ford dealer?

It was probably sent in for an oil change, possibly to hide the fact the oil had water mixed in with it before you bought it.

Personally I'd reject the car and get your money back. The garage will probably bodge it back together (as it won't earn them any money) so changes are it will happen again.

The tapping is usually due to oil starvation to the head and lifters. I did a head gasket on a Corsa C and ended up taking the hydralic lifters out and giving each one a thorough clean out and oiling. There's not many places that will do that normally, never mind under warrenty. Purred like a kitten after that.

If you haven't owned it for 30 days it's the law that you can have a full refund. Don't let them tell you any different as the car is clearly not fit for purpose.

Yeh, I wouldn't want it back either. Have your money back and buy a different car.
