The said cars were Corsa b's 😱 the MK1 have a tendency to tilt then snap ( design fault ) the MK1.5 was axle was  better but because it was a 3 cylinder the head went after a month 😂, my partner has a MK1 estate focus while I have mk6/7 escort, l would love to have an older mk1-4 escort preferably as they were my child growing up dream although I do like bikes l cant ride to save my life I've crashed a Thomas I'm that bad on them 😂

I did like my RS MK1 but age was showing a lot and looking back i did some stupid things with it like not make it original as there stupid prices now.

Sprayed over the Decals as it needed new ones and the orange paint was fading bad but it was money,SuperSport was a dam nippy car and fun.

Only had these a few years but back then a car was a car,wind windows and no Aircon just window down (which always fell to one side on the MK1's)

Yeah that's the problem if only everyone new those few years ago how much they were going to be worth, but then that's what helps drive the price up of certain types the less there is n the more that want the more you have to pay to own 😔 the Corsa B MK1 didn't was total standard no powersteering or anything n l found it to be quite enjoyable being able to feel everything it was doing including the feeling of riding a baking tray 😂 apart from the second MK1 l bought it had electric windows in ? when possible l will get an older model just to get the wonderful feeling back 👍

17 cars in 40 years never had a month without finance in all those years. Cheapest car was my first a £300 mk1 escort most expensive the current RS 

First car was a 1996 Ford Fiesta that I had to have the majority of the floor welded to get through MOT. Kept it for around a year then moved into a Renault Clio...poor car that gave me constant trouble and zero joy in driving. 

Next was a Skoda Fabia VRS which I loved! Kept it for 8 years and although it gave me the odd problem it was a joy to drive.

Im currently 4 days into owning a 2011 Ford Mondeo Titanium X Sport and everytime I drive it theres a smile on my face although I must admit, parking it compared to the fabia is a challenge! Hope to keep it for many years to come!

Until it's beyond repair and maintenance. 

I keep mine till the 175k point or about 5 years

I think that's the main thing if you cant afford it or is it worth having done,coming to 4 years now on mine and still love it.

First car I bought was a 9 year old 1996 Escort, kept it for 8 years until yearly repairs cost more than it was worth.
I thought if an Escort can last me 8 years then a decent Focus would last me at least the same.

5 Years ago I was looking for a 4 year old 1.6 Focus with 30,000 miles to hit my £6k budget, with the aim of keeping it for a long time,
I found a 45,000 mile Zetec S for £6.5k (normally £8k at the time) and took the hit on the higher mileage, I only do about 5,000 per year.
It's only mechanical fault so far was on last months MOT when they found a broken coil spring.
I sense it's now at that age where there is going to be something on the advisory every year, I'll just have to wait and see.

I want a 2015 Focus ST but I know my 1.6 Zetec S can do everything I need, I would only be paying for smiles per gallon.

Had my Mondeo Ghia for 17 years, hardly ever missed a beat, I shed a tear when she had to go due to a poorly repaired repair to the cill I made which was picked up on an advisory. Traded it in for a Fusion, as the kids have flown, and we no longer needed a big car. Kept the Fusion for 18 months but never had any love for it. Traded that in last week for a 2007 2litre mk2 Focus Ghia with FSH and i'm back in love again,  hence the reason i'm posting on here to you wonderful people 😀

This is the longest i have kept a car for a long while,my  2011 titanium 1.6 only 28k and love it,very nippy and loads of toys.

Had it when 3 and half years old and had it for just over 4 years,just had all Belts done so will be keeping it a few more.

Bought my Fusion new in 2006, still going strong.  Mortgage paid off at 38, retired at 48, all because I never wasted money on a new car or new  PCP every few years.  

I'm also still riding the same motorbike I bought new in 1991.

Sure a shiny new car, fast new bike, super duper iPhone XYZ would be cool, but not having to go to work on Monday morning is even cooler.

if it wasnt for divorce i would be mortgage free. at least my car is paid for and i got a cheap paid for mobile with zero cost sim deal. 

Yes, I been divorced.  Going from a Boxster S to a Fusion taught me a lesson on several levels.

Jethro you are so right,never waste money as hard to get in the first place and we all like top things and new stuff that cost LOADS but no point on

living a life in dept,my thing is if it works fine and looks nice no point.

My current two cars are extremes, one I've only just bought and the other I've owned for 13 years.

All of the cars I've sold I owned for 4 years each.

I have just sold my 2008 Fusion+. last year it cost me over £1000 in repairs, nothing too serious, a door lock mechanism,a new heater resistor block ,two front road springs, front discs and brake pads. I loved my Fusion as it was very practical and only £30 road tax but I could see things needing replacing more and more.There comes a time when the repairs far exceed the value of the car. It still looked as good as new so it was very hard to part with it but I felt that technology was leaving me behind. I only bought it in the first place because the government was putting pressure on the motorist to buy diesels and now they've put pressure on me to buy a petrol car. I miss the efficiency of the diesel, 77 mpg in the flat counties of Norfolk and lincolnshire.
