Advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I was looking for some advice if possible?

I have a 1994 Escort 1.6i LX Zetec 5 door in white which belonged to my parents. The car has covered 32,500 miles from new and doesn't currently have an MOT.

Over the next month or so I was planning to get 12 months MOT on the car with a view to selling it.

My problem is. Where is the best place to advertise a car like this to get the best price and the right buyer? The online car buying services are unable to put a value on it.

Many thanks in advance.

Its a 24 year old used car.  Very little collector interest.  Few hundred quid tops.

Local retro facebook group would be a good place to advertise directly to a buyer.  Otherwise Gumtree is a good starting point as it's free to list.

The Retrorides website might be worth a try.

Id go for the old ebay. At the end of the day its only worth what someone will pay for it. Do you have a price in mind?

I would do an internet search and see what sort of price they are going for, google is your friend:smile:

@Tickets you'll be looking at roughly around £5-600 ish with it (1) being a 1.6 (2) it's not an rs/GTi or what's considered a special model, (3) low mileage is the bonus selling bit, (4) it depends on where you are ( as quite a few in East of England where l am like them but most are situated too far north or south, l own a mk6/7 escort so know a bit on this front, there a mk5/6 escort group on Facebook but l would as already mentioned look at everywhere that's free to advertise first the more places the better the interest, the plus bonus to it being a 1.6 it can be fitted with the Mondeo MK2 2.0 16v engine if that takes your interest or can be used as part of your advertisement 👍.

Yeah if it was an RS you could ask for well in excess of £10k. Sadly the regular models (e.g. LX etc.) aren't collectable so are only worth as much as any other 24 year old car. The low mileage will help, but not massively as there's quite a few being advertised around the 40-50k miles currently.

Just make sure you get it through the MOT without a list of faults/advisories as long as your arm as that will put a lot of buyers off/ knock the price down.

Thank you gents for all of your comments/advice.

I will get an MOT on it and stick it on Gumtree first of all and see if I get any interest.
