  5. We bought a couple of them for our boys last Christmas, think they got fed up with them after a couple of weeks! They've lost the remotes now! I stuck one of the bulbs in the police sign I spoke about the other day, looks quite good with the colours changing

  10. Don't know how true this is but here's a comment from Ford re BP Ultimate - "Dr Wolfgang Schneider, a key development director at Ford of Europe, feels the introduction of the fuel is a big step forward for diesels. “We’ve welcomed BP Ultimate diesel. As the first performance fuel specifically developed to meet the needs of diesel engined vehicles, we can see clearly how it contributes to lower emissions of regulated pollutants, improved cold starting, lower noise, improved economy and performance and improved protection of the engine. This, we’ve found, allows for cleaner, more efficient vehicle operation and helps protect diesel engines for longer life.”"

  11. Using higher spec diesel is good for something like the mk3.5 Focus ST tdci but tbh not much benefit on an engine optimised for standard fuel. I'd say as Lenny did, blank the EGR and then have a Terraclean service done. Sent from my SM-G930F

  12. I believe they are 382's (also known as BA15S or P21W) Best ones are the type with cree bulbs on the end and led's around the sides to utilise the lens reflectors. Sent from my SM-G930F

  14. Something that should be mentioned is that Diesels run lean. Very lean at idle. With a normal petrol engine, the stoichiometric mix means a very high water content in the exhaust gas. Something like 44 parts Nitrogen, 8 parts CO2 and 6 parts water vapour, by volume, for full combustion. The Ecoboost petrol engine can run lean, though I have no idea if and when this option is used. Petrol exhausts corrode rapidly from the inside, due to this water, made worse by any NOx, which can form nitric acid. This will a big problem on short journeys where the exhaust stays cool. Diesel exhausts can last much longer, with minimal internal corrosion, as there is usually a period of lean running (idle or low power) to flush out the water before switching off. Water in the oil can be a problem for petrol engines used for short runs, for the same reason. I would say that without a DPF there is not much in it. If buying secondhand, the initial capital cost is not so much higher, and Diesels on short runs still remain more frugal on fuel than petrol on the same short runs. Long oil warm up time, and long cabin warm up time (!) are the main disadvantages of Diesel that I can think of, in this case. Some Diesels have electric heaters in the coolant system to cure this. As the warmed coolant also goes to the "oil cooler", which also works as an oil warmer from cold, the oil will benefit too. It is the DPF that ruins Diesel for many people. DPFs mean more CO2 for the whole planet in exchange for a tiny reduction in one specific type of possible pollutant in crowed, congested cities. But then the rule makers live in cities!

  17. One point to bear in mind is that, due to the slow warm-up, diesels take a proportionately bigger mpg hit than petrol on short journeys.

  18. Apart from any technical reasons, short trips tends to equal lower mileage, and for the increased price of a diesel, you'll never reap the financial benefits of the better economy.

  19. It's not as daunting as it looks...honest lol Pop off your rear bumper, and mark out where you want the sensors. There might even be marks there already! Drill through and clean up the holes then reattach the bumper. There should be a rubber grommet under the back end somewhere - feed through the wires for the sensors through the bumper holes then through the grommet For the control box you need access to the rear lights. Tap into the reverse light wire (positive) and also the nearest earth point. Plug in the wires to the box and make sure that the sensors are all properly inserted and yer done!

  23. I've yet to get the typical rust on my Mk1, everyone else seem get it, yet mine won't Molly is a very vibrant 5 year old, she too is a rescue, from Cat's Protection. although unlike Brandy she wasn't a abused. Her previous owner lost his job and consequently his house and then his new landlord wouldn't allow pets, so he gave her up for adoption. I got Brandy to drink water from a syringe, she drank around 300ml, 10ml at a time. Following that, I wondered whether she might eat something if I liquidised it first, and fed it to her in the same manner. So I made her a chicken wing and lamb heart smoothie. She ate the first syringe full, started on the second but was reluctant to have any more. Since she had a drink her eyes look brighter I've just carried her upstairs to my office, along with a fresh hot water bottle, her woolly fleece and one of her plush toy dogs, she's partially under my desk resting her head on my right foot

  27. I was wondering is it worth me using the super diesel in service stations. I have heard that the properties of the more expensive fuel can help prolong the life of my car and raise its performance and mpg. Is this true or is it a fuel for sports cars only?

  28. Hi Peter, Thanks for your opinion, it is much appreciated. I think I always knew that selling it would be the answer, as my lack of facilities and resources to be able to restore the car. That coupled with my lack of mechanical skills and enthusiasm for restoring cars. It is just the thought that it will be something I regret later on in life, but you're right I need to accept that it is the correct thing to do. Just a couple more questions if you don't mind. Where should I sell it? And based on the picture and what I said previously, how much would you value it? Baring in mind the picture was taken about a year and half a go, so keeping it outside in the Great British weather has unfortunately taken it's toll further on the bodywork some what. The mechanic I mentioned previously said I should put the car up for sale as it is and show potential buyers the most recent MOT. And finally should I get the fuel tank fixed even if I'm going to sell it. Thanks again for your help, Colin

  32. Just some updates car does indeed have a o2/lambda sensors. the dealer will remain nameless at the mo but after a week long battle it looks they have finally come good, after the finance company leant on them a little bit, they are replacing the dpf, o2 sensor, and injector seals, I really like the car it drives well more than enough power for a daily and happy with the mpg, ( I did a 172mile round trip brimmed the tank before and after and she only used £14:80). The only downside is I have been given a Fiat Punto as a courtesy car and its ***** awful the steering wheel is more like a tiller doesnt so much steer as guide the car in the rough direction, the accelerator is nothing more than a foot rest, I have sat on more comfortable chuch pews. after driving it home I was seriously considering self harming.

  33. Nope, for what it's worth, I don't have a problem with anyone online. But then I don't get easily offended...or offended at all really, you've really got to try hard if you want to insult me lol. I'm not bothered whether someone reads my posts and acts on them or not, that's up to them. I'll provide the information I have and let them do whatever they want with it. I also don't agree with everyone, or expect everyone to agree with me. Some things are down to personal preference, perspective and opinion, and that's fine. At the end of the day, whether it's real life or the internet, you won't like everyone, not everyone will like you. But it can be difficult to work out where someone may be offended by what was meant as a light-hearted joke or a bit of wit/sarcasm. Sadly I know you can't always pick up on the jokes and it may seem like people are ripping into you when they weren't meaning to. I have seen a few posts on here recently that could've seemed harsh to the reader, not just posts aimed towards you either. But we all have off days, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that they've had a bad day or whatever and don't take it too seriously. If someone was personally offended by a post they are welcome to report it.

  34. evans halshaw operate a scheme whereby if you see a car you'd like to look at which is located in another part of the country , they will relocate it to your nearest evans dealership within a week or so. there is a £200 deposit for this but you get that money back even if you dont buy the car so long as you at least turn up for the test drive / viewing appointment. this is how i bought my current car :-)

  36. hey there Well I've ordered the new ones and I shall try them, however if I still experience said problems I shall return them to the seller, I usually wouldn't but as said I've already put 2 sets of plugs in and if the third pair doesn't solve the problem then I am sending them straight back and putting the ones I currently have back on, then I will investigate further and take it from there. I'm sure the plugs are in tight enough now though the first time they were loose as I discovered when swapping them around, not very loose but just not tight enough. It's odd though, sometimes my car starts fine, other days it really doesn't start too good at all edit : urm, quick question, do I seem argumentative in my posts or appear unappreciative at all ? the user above has just randomly insulted me out of the blue and I do not know his problem. I know Jmurray01 has been very mean to me at times and answered questions very bluntly and I have seen on some threads he has been slagging me off to other members, I therefore sent him a PM a few days ago asking him to stop being abusive toward me I told his I'd like us to get along and I told him if he doesn't quit his abuse that I will report him to the mods with hopes of him being permanently removed from the site. I told him if he has nothing nice to say then say nothing at all , since then he has not replied to any of the posts I've sent, like nice posts like asking him how much a car is for sale at that he wants to buy and just trying to interact nice with him he has not replied but rather that than him being mean , It just feels he has a problem with me asking questions and he decides to post but is very blunt in his answers. sorry for the rant but do you personally have a problem with me such as the user above is implying that people here are upset with me ? thanks

  44. There is something quite satisfying about the clunk of a door closing on an Audi, possibly the wrong forum to discuss that here lol So, when you check the contacts at the mirror they are getting a feed when you toggle the switch but the mirror doesn't move? Could it be the mechanism/motor or have you replaced the whole mirror and housing? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  46. To keep a classic car, you either need to be wealthy enough to happily pay good mechanics to do all the time consuming jobs that will 100% certainly be needed, or you need to have the enthusiasm, time and facilities to do it yourself. My father restored vintage motorcycles, and I have friends who keep classic cars, so I know a bit about it, though I am not really tempted down that road myself. Lack of facilities is one reason, a good double garage is almost essential. If you try to keep it out of respect or love for your grandfather, but can not really manage, it will be a mistake, watching the car decay expensively. It is your choice, but take it with a clear mind. Just looking at the bodywork, it looks great, but from what you say it is in vital need of a lot of TLC, from someone able to give it the care it needs to stay like that. Are you that someone? That is the hard question you have to answer. If you are going to sell, I would do so now. An enthusiast could do a lot of those jobs themselves, not at overheaded garage rates.

  47. Hi Richard. Since yours is the tit x leave the centre speaker as you've got the top end speakers. I've had 2 tit x diesel focuses mk3's and yes they're a great car. Keep on top of servicing and try to use premium fuel as often as you can.

  48. Found the screensaver option. Only have the choice of 1 minute, 3 minutes or off so have set it to 1 minute. Odd how it changed itself though, time and date is still right. Oh well, that's the mirror issue sorted anyway. Will just have to keep an eye on the cam for now.
