  1. I do like, after spending close to 2 days, getting quotes, haggling them down and being re-quoted finally settling on an insurance policy and company for Pipper's possible health needs. Ideally, I will never have to make a claim but if I do, she's got any possible hip displasia treatment covered (the most expensive treatment springers can get) at the drop of a hat, for instance I also like with my diet, I'm continuing to lose, what seems to the regular amount now of 0.3% body fat a week whilst not losing any muscle mass, sometimes gaining some too. After Saturday morning's debacle, having taken my knee brace off to go to bed, then having a very painful knee and stumbling all over the place until I put it back on. I checked with the physio whether I could just keep it on 24/7. He said, because it's made of a mesh with carbon fibre hinges (as opposed to neoprene and aluminium hinges) not only can it be worn all the time, I can also shower, bathe and swim in it, if I want too. So, I have It's healing nicely now and I've started to be able to bend it, enabling among other things, to sit comfortably on the loo, or a chair, to get in and out of the car without grimacing too much and to ascend stairs in the correct manner

  2. Thanks Everyone After weighing it all up, creating 2 different spreadsheets a comparison one and "what would I do if x occurred now" one I've decided to insure Pipper for the time being, I might return to paying as I incur vet fees when Pipper is older, like I did all the time with Brandy. For the last two days I've been chatting to the various insurers, getting quotes, followed by some haggling, then getting re-quoted. In the end, although they were slightly more expensive by £1.56 a month, than the next one down (Animal Friends - Prestige policy) ) I've gone with Petplan's Classic (Insured 4 Life) with an annual £7000 vet fee limit. Which having chatted to my vet, as to what other springer spaniel patients have, most go for a policy that covers between £6500-7500. Oddly, if you set up your policy online you get a 10% discount on the first year (which most insurers seem to do); but if you do it over the phone, they give you a free month( 13 months for the price of 12). The free month is actually a better discount than the 10%: the 10% only equals a free 2½ weeks. in my insurer search I discovered there are some surprisingly odd companies offering pet insurance, from companies whose core business isn't pets. Whilst they may have a finance business, and sell relevant insurance and broker loans pertaining to their core business, it was odd to find KwikFit and the AA offering pet insurance

  5. Used the train the last 2 days now to work and am less grumpy and more happy when I get to work and get home. I love driving but driving an hr each way especially when I hit London traffic makes me want to take a chain saw to some of the drivers I encounter. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

  7. It has been a while since I last updated. Last Weds - called again at the end of the day as once again, I hadn't heard anything. Was told the guy I mentioned earlier is coming back from sick leave and he would finally show the other engineers what is wrong with the alternator. This contradicts what I was told slightly, but anyway, that's that. Friday - they actually called me! *Plays a trumpet*. This time I was told that they'd finally got authorisation from Ford, to replace the alternator, clutch and clutch release bearing. It has only taken them 15 working days (3 weeks in old money). They said that the alternator would arrive on Monday and the clutch would arrive hopefully on Tuesday. The clutches are in short supply apparently and they are having to ship it from Germany or wherever. I remarked that they must in demand if you can't get hold of a clutch and he just shrugged it off. Read into short supply what you will - I am interpreting this as clutches must be failing left right and centre. I pressed on when am I going to get my car and I suggested Weds (tomorrow) was reasonable to which he agreed. Let's see if it happens now!

  8. Hi, I'm new to the site not long purchased a 62 plate Ford Focus zetec s 1.0 ecoboost still in the honeymoon period lol. Anyone got any advice regarding stone chips how to remove or improve them? Unfortunately only problem I have is a few minor small chips on the front spoiler and I'm determined to get shut of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

  18. depends whats been done on previous services, fords service schedules are a pain as each one(1st, 2nd ,3rd 4th ) have different operations to carry out. like 1st is basic oil and filter, pollen filter, wheels stay on ,check over etc, 2nd simular to first but wheels off and closer brake inspection, 3rd is the one where air filter , spark plugs or fuel filter if diesel and you would call a major servive but wheels dont come off. then 4th its simular to 2nd but rear drums come off to inspect shoes as appropriate. so in conclusion ford dont do a interim or full service as such therefore they should be done each year as appropriate to age or mileage. if you not sure whats been done on previous services , i would either have a ford motorcraft full service with free breakdown cover , or a proper full service at independant garage.(oil filter, air filter pollen filter, spark plug and full brake inspection with drums off as applicable)

  26. Awesome response!!!! Many Thanks. I do have some experience with electrical / electronics systems and have a couple of good multi meters. Your diagram is exactly what I was looking for. As soon as my cheapo play about one arrives, I'll have a go. Did you ever try to remove the motor / solenoid from the valve itself? I removed the Torx screws holding it to the valve body, but it didn't want to separate too easily, so I put the screws back in.. Thanks again.

  27. Thanks i like the display to that android unit but in an Apple guy! Haha where would I go about a Sony system upgrade? I have a Sony one in there now the default one. Tried google but no joy!
    1 point
  28. To be honest, the best upgrade you could do is upgrade the system to a Sony system rather than replace it outright with an Android system. The sound quality will be far superior to the Android system, and you'll still have the features that are inherent with the car on the radio.

  29. I have done this on my car and yes you will need a left hand drive fog lamp. Then go to guides on the forum and look at Lennys guides to doing this it’s not cheap for the fog light but worth it there's a relay out there that turns the fog lights off when reversing lights come on both that's if you want Both fog and reversing lights I have both with Cree bulbs

  32. Thanks mate all the horizontal frames are sitting low because there not currently hanging on the metal clips like the other frames, no the horizontal ones were hanging on the frame which causes them to be slightly lower temporarily. the reason for this is; the clips are currently on the vertical side and I'd have to take them out of the shrink wrap to put the clip on to the horizontal side which I don't want to do until fitting for the last time. they will be 100% in line when fitted on the clips the same as the other frames were at the time of taking the picture👍

  37. We see that there are one set of springs specific for the 1.4 and 1.6 Duratec (Petrol) Models as saw here: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_eibach_spring_kit_14_and_16_duratec_f_1358917_c_449.htm It seems then the 1.8 and 2.0 Duratec (Petrol) models use a different set of springs which happens to be the same springs used for all focus Diesel Models 05-11 as saw here: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_eibach_spring_kit_18_and_20_duratec_and_diesel_f_1358918.htm So your 2.0 Duratec Springs will be the same as the 2.0TDCi version.

  39. Provided nuts fix spacers on the hubs, original nuts fix wheels on spacers, like you said :) I have to say that I'm not that confident with purchasing "unknown" brand when it comes to things like spacers (or springs, shocks, etc...), but if you have reliable source then I guess it's ok. It's definitely a much better prize than I paid for my H&Rs, which cost almost GBP 200,- for two pairs (20+25mm). I look forward to see them on your car, I believe it gets the look you're seeking, it will allign the wheels nicely with the car :)

  40. Well not a great deal to report, not had a great of time to spend on the car but I have replaced injector seals as number 2 was leaking, the dpf low pressure fault was down to the hose been split at the dpf end so that fault is sorted. However I still have the 2 orig faults, I can drive around the faults if I drive real steady until the engine is fully warmed then fault codes dont appear they only seem to flag up when the engine is tepid and I accelerate upto speed. however another thing I have noticed with the car when starting from cold it fires up first time and idles smooth but doesnt rev cleanly feels like its over fueling when you try to rev it (no big clouds of smoke though) and when driving on a light throttle in lowish 15mph (leaving the works car park) it hunts once warmed up it revs fine and drives fine, I was pulling a trailer with it the other day probs about 800kg and she drove fine plenty of power did a brim tank and the start brim at the finish got 52.7mpg which I thought was quite good. The cold start feels like a temp sensor reading to cold so over fueling.

  41. These arrived today. Look ok, quite heavier than I expected. I'm not actually sure how these work, I assume I use the nuts provided to attach the spacer to the hub then the threaded bits on the spacer are what the wheels attach to using stock nuts ?

  43. That's a standard bumper with an aftermarket centre diffuser section stuck on to it, Plenty of kit available here: http://www.european-parts.net/index.php?cat=c172_Ford-Focus-Ford-Focus.html the alloys look like there from a 2005-2008 focus just painted black, The horizontal mounting of the egaust muffler is a strange option as there is sufficient space to fit in vertically to the left of the spare tyre well. It looks as if they purchased an aftermarket ST exhaust and fitted it below the tyre well.

  48. If a service is due I'd get it done ASAP as diesels don't like having services delayed/missed. As you say would be ideal to change the fuel, air and oil filter. With regards to oil, as long as the right one is used it should be ok. For the record I used Ford Formula E which is ok in price and the oil that Ford reccomend. Also might be worth checking tyre pressures, if the car has been standing for a while at a dealer, these may have dropped below the specified level.
