  1. I do like, after spending close to 2 days, getting quotes, haggling them down and being re-quoted finally settling on an insurance policy and company for Pipper's possible health needs. Ideally, I will never have to make a claim but if I do, she's got any possible hip displasia treatment covered (the most expensive treatment springers can get) at the drop of a hat, for instance I also like with my diet, I'm continuing to lose, what seems to the regular amount now of 0.3% body fat a week whilst not losing any muscle mass, sometimes gaining some too. After Saturday morning's debacle, having taken my knee brace off to go to bed, then having a very painful knee and stumbling all over the place until I put it back on. I checked with the physio whether I could just keep it on 24/7. He said, because it's made of a mesh with carbon fibre hinges (as opposed to neoprene and aluminium hinges) not only can it be worn all the time, I can also shower, bathe and swim in it, if I want too. So, I have It's healing nicely now and I've started to be able to bend it, enabling among other things, to sit comfortably on the loo, or a chair, to get in and out of the car without grimacing too much and to ascend stairs in the correct manner

  2. Thanks Everyone After weighing it all up, creating 2 different spreadsheets a comparison one and "what would I do if x occurred now" one I've decided to insure Pipper for the time being, I might return to paying as I incur vet fees when Pipper is older, like I did all the time with Brandy. For the last two days I've been chatting to the various insurers, getting quotes, followed by some haggling, then getting re-quoted. In the end, although they were slightly more expensive by £1.56 a month, than the next one down (Animal Friends - Prestige policy) ) I've gone with Petplan's Classic (Insured 4 Life) with an annual £7000 vet fee limit. Which having chatted to my vet, as to what other springer spaniel patients have, most go for a policy that covers between £6500-7500. Oddly, if you set up your policy online you get a 10% discount on the first year (which most insurers seem to do); but if you do it over the phone, they give you a free month( 13 months for the price of 12). The free month is actually a better discount than the 10%: the 10% only equals a free 2½ weeks. in my insurer search I discovered there are some surprisingly odd companies offering pet insurance, from companies whose core business isn't pets. Whilst they may have a finance business, and sell relevant insurance and broker loans pertaining to their core business, it was odd to find KwikFit and the AA offering pet insurance

  5. Used the train the last 2 days now to work and am less grumpy and more happy when I get to work and get home. I love driving but driving an hr each way especially when I hit London traffic makes me want to take a chain saw to some of the drivers I encounter. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

  7. It has been a while since I last updated. Last Weds - called again at the end of the day as once again, I hadn't heard anything. Was told the guy I mentioned earlier is coming back from sick leave and he would finally show the other engineers what is wrong with the alternator. This contradicts what I was told slightly, but anyway, that's that. Friday - they actually called me! *Plays a trumpet*. This time I was told that they'd finally got authorisation from Ford, to replace the alternator, clutch and clutch release bearing. It has only taken them 15 working days (3 weeks in old money). They said that the alternator would arrive on Monday and the clutch would arrive hopefully on Tuesday. The clutches are in short supply apparently and they are having to ship it from Germany or wherever. I remarked that they must in demand if you can't get hold of a clutch and he just shrugged it off. Read into short supply what you will - I am interpreting this as clutches must be failing left right and centre. I pressed on when am I going to get my car and I suggested Weds (tomorrow) was reasonable to which he agreed. Let's see if it happens now!

  8. All non-management staff on FOC are volunteers and therefore we give our free time to help run the forum. There are over 50 different sections on this forum to categorise threads and ensure you are receiving the most appropriate responses. The General Chat forum is ONLY for threads which DO NOT fit any other category. If your thread is anything do to with a specific model, it should go in the relevant model club section. If related to Fords in general, in the General Ford forum, etc. We have spent longer moving threads out of general chat and in to the correct section than anything else on the forum, but this will no longer be the case. In future, any thread which is not general chat, i.e. related to Fords or fits in another category will be deleted without warning.

  9. Hi, I'm new to the site not long purchased a 62 plate Ford Focus zetec s 1.0 ecoboost still in the honeymoon period lol. Anyone got any advice regarding stone chips how to remove or improve them? Unfortunately only problem I have is a few minor small chips on the front spoiler and I'm determined to get shut of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

  11. Should do? As long as they're the type that has a "base station" which plugs into the speaker/line out socket. If they're the bluetooth kind that link directly to the computer then no, unless your KVM switch has a USB pass through.

  19. Ahhh I'll be roaming into unknown territory, exciting, but anyway, ill have to have a look into Sach's clutch kit! Yeah well I left it in yesterday with the parts and he was able to have the front and rear fitted today no issues, the side skirt brackets may have to be trimmed ever so slightly, but yeah when it's finished ill be uploading lots of photos!

  20. To answer my own question Weathertech Europe will be releasing new font liners in a couple of months for the MK3.5 RHD Focus which are compatible with the factory fitted passenger and driver side mat retainer clips. Part number is # 4410001.

  21. Another update.... Call from Ford to say they've taken the car out for a drive and the temperature dropped rapidly - not the same behaviour as when it was sat in the workshop. So this led them to have another look and they've discovered an issue with the thermostat! This is now being replaced under warranty and the car will be back with me tomorrow.

  27. Looking forward to seeing them installed yea. I wouldn't say my source is reliable but many ST owners have them on STOC UK from what I can see and the actual product itself has quite a few good reviews on eBay so I'm basing my expectations on this lol But yes I too feel slightly apprehensive about an unknown brand but I'm willing to take the chance. I will report back when I have them installed.

  28. Personally I would go with my tried and tested "script". Around £8k should get you a ~20k millage 2-4 years old car that should easily last 5 years with little unexpected outlays. Examples, 2012 Focus Titanium, 14k mileage £8k 2013 Focus Titanium, 25k mileage £8k 2014 Focus Zetec Nav 24k mileage £9k 2012 Focus 1.6 ecoboost Titainium X, 20k mileage £9 2014 Fiesta Titanium X 17.5k mileage £9k 2013 Fiesta Titanium, X 15.5k mileage, £8,5k

  29. The mk3.5 does indeed come as diesel and petrol but having driven both I found the diesel to be far less desirable with regards to performance. It is easily outpaced by even a mk2 ST. Sent from my SM-G930F

  30. do like not doing the job im employed to do , and instead today ive been helping get 5 cars up lots of steps of hotel entrance and then park them inside foyer and conference rooms not designed for such things! cant go into detail but one car had to be carefully squeezed in and took nearly 2 hrs to get in position. made a change to looking at rows of transits all day.

  35. In every car we've had in the past 2 years the steering wheel has been off-centre, and none of the local garages can seem to get it right!! I'm not sure what is so difficult about clamping the wheel in the dead-ahead position before doing the alignment. Makes me think it is just laziness.

  44. We've got cats and so the risk profile is obviously different to dogs however they do have the same fact in common that they are our life and we would put their best interests before ours if need be as I'm sure many other animal lovers would too! In our case we self-insure - not just with the cats but for pretty much everything else i.e. boiler cover, whitegoods cover, car warranties etc. The only exceptions are home and car insurance given the legal obligations. This strategy has paid off insofar that all the money we would have paid out on premiums for these continues to be less than that which we have forked out dealing with insurable incidents across the board. Something to bear in mind is the risk that having pet insurance means that you might then take a 'money no object' approach. This sounds like nothing but a positive but the negative is that you could end up keeping your loved ones alive for your own benefit and not theirs given that you wouldn't have money concerns as a contributory factor - indeed you might even feel an obligation to throw money at whatever treatments might be available given that's what you bought the insurance for. However, as a vet once told me - 'better to let an animal go a week early than a day too late' - and this is a mantra that I really believe in. If an animal's cards are marked then sometimes the best thing you can do is to let them go - assisted if need be - rather than putting them through treatments that may at best sometimes only lead to an extension to length of life but at the risk of overall quality. We found ourselves in this position last year with a dear cat of ours, Elmo, who had what was initially assumed to be arthritis but turned out to be a rare bone cancer. We could have put him through chemotherapy etc, despite the high costs, even without insurance but the vet was very clear on the fact that it wouldn't cure him but merely just give him longer to live. We made the difficult decision of putting him to sleep *before* he started to really deteriorate. This was only a difficult decision at the time though; afterwards we knew we'd given him the best gift we could ever done - avoidance of suffering - and that with him 'leaving on a high' as it were it meant he'd had the best life he could ever have done, even if it wasn't the longest. We are in the fortunate position of being able to spend hundreds, even thousands, on our cats if need be and if the situation warrants it and so perhaps insurance makes less sense for us anyway as a result. For those with less disposable income though I can certainly understand that insurance might be more beneficial if it means less critical illnesses etc can become affordable. You've got to remember with insurance that you'll only know in hindsight if it was the best decision or not and on that basis perhaps there's no right or wrong!

  46. Yes, I can beat that easily. I can get 65mpg from my 1.8TDCi on a run and in the summer, it recorded almost 70 mpg on an efficiency run. The TDDI is definitely more sluggish than than the TDCi. Funny though, as everyone I know who's tried both agrees too. As mentioned above, driving style plays a huge part in how a car performs. If the turbo kicks in at different times for the TDDI and TDCi, you should therefore adjust your gear changes to compensate. Likewise as mentioned above: variances from the overall reported average suggests that there is something not quite right with the car.
