Hello

Can anybody help !

Recently driving down the road heart a crunching noise when using the clutch. Afterwards when got home found a car part on the drivers floor mat.

It looks like some sort of damper spring arrangement from the top of the clutch pedal. I have bought another from FORD but have been told by a mechanic mate that it could be a massive job to replace, as having to remove pedal box.

Can anybody tell me what the job involves and length of time to carry out.

The car still drives okay and there doesnt seem to be any hydralic fluid leaking anywhere.

I have attached a picture of the part !

Any help at all would be appreciated.

I had the same part break on my 2006 ST - it's an assist spring for the clutch pedal, so is compressed with your foot off the pedal then expands to help pedal effort as you push it down.

It's not that expensive to replace but would be an absolute PIA to change it as access to the pedal box in situ is a nightmare. Think on Ford's etis system for repair processes they have a special tool which you compress the spring and holder into, then locate the part in place and remove the tool. It's like a tube from memory.

When mine broke I never got round to replacing it and it didn't make much difference, being honest I can't remember if mine had fallen out or just one of the ears had broken off the plastic cap.

my mechanic friend said much the same about it being an expensive PIA job but will still drive OK for probably ages as its just an assist for the pedal action. Thats good to hear as I really cant afford an expensive job at the moment, but have bought the part anyways (£6.20) and if it needs doing will look at that special tool, brilliant advice !
